3. Abstraction

1.) Formative Evaluation

 Is a type of evaluation used to monitor the learning progress of
the students during or after instruction.

2.) Summative Evaluation

 Is a type of evaluation usually given at the end of a course or
unit.

identify the strengths and weaknesses of the students regarding
the topics to be discussed.

4.) Criterion-Referenced Test

 Is a type of evaluation that describes what an examinee can do
without reference to the performance of others.

5.) Norm-Referenced Evaluation

 Is a measure to find out how well a student performs on a
defined set of task in relation with the performance of other
students who take the same test.

Differences between Criterion-Referenced and Norm-Referenced Tests

 CRT typically focuses on a delimited domain of learning task,
with a relative large number of items measuring each specific
task while NRT covers large domain of learning task, with just a
few items measuring each specific task.
 CRT emphasizes among individuals can and cannot perform
while NRT emphasizes discrimination among individuals in
terms of relative level of learning.
 CRT matches items difficulty to learning tasks, withtout altering
item difficulty or omitting easy or hard items while NRT favors
items of large difficult and typically omits very hard items.
 CRT interpretation requires a clearly defined and delimited
achievement domain while NRT interpretation requires a clearly
defined group.

4. Application: “Interpret Me”

Mechanics:
 The teacher will group the students into three (3) and each group
must provide a one-half (1/2) sheet of paper.
 The teacher will post the picture
 Each group must express their insights about the quote in relation
to evaluation
 After which, the students will share their group’s insight about the
picture. The teacher will be the one to choose the presenter from
each group.

Criteria:
i. Content—The task elicits the correct performance from the
student.
ii. Clarity—Students know exactly what to do.
iii. Feasibility—The task is practical.
iv. Fairness and Accuracy—Nothing in the task will give an
inaccurate picture of student skill. All students have an equal
chance to achieve.
v. Sampling—The task adequately cover all dimensions of the
learning target to be assessed.
Point systems are follows:
Content: 10 pts.
Clarity: 5 pts.
Feasibility: 5 pts.
Fairness and Accuracy: 5 pts.
Sampling 5 pts.
TOTAL: 30 pts.

other devices.

4. (Criterion-Referenced Test, Norm-Referenced Test) typically focuses on a

delimited domain of learning task, with a relative large number of items measuring each
specific task while (Criterion-Referenced Test, Norm-Referenced Test) covers large
domain of learning task, with just a few items measuring each specific task.

5. (Criterion-Referenced Test, Norm-Referenced Test) is a measure to find out

how well a student performs on a defined set of task in relation with the performance of
other students who take the same test.

Uses of Classroom Test for Teachers, School Administrators, Supervisors and Parents.

Tests serve a lot of functions for school administrators, supervisors, teachers, and parents, as well
(Arends, 1994; Escarilla & Gonzales, 1990).

School administrators utilize test results for making decisions regarding the promotion or
retention of students; improvement or enrichment of the curriculum; and conduct of staff
development programs for teachers. Through test results, school administrators can also have a
clear picture of the extent to which the objectives of the school’s instructional program is
achieved.

Supervisors use test results in discovering learning areas needing special attention and
identifying teachers’ weaknesses and learning competencies not mastered by the students. Test
results can also provide supervisors baseline data on curriculum revision.

Teachers, on the other hand, utilize tests for numerous purposes. Through testing, teachers are
able to – gather information about the effectiveness of instruction; give feedback to students
about their progress; and assign grades.

Parents, too, derive benefits from tests administered to their children. Through test scores, they
are able to determine how well their sons and daughters are faring in school and how well the
school is doing its share in educating their children.
