ALL THE BRIGHT PLACES
Based upon the novel “All The Bright Places” by Niven and the film is directed by Brett
Haley and screenplay by Jennifer Niven

“Sometimes things feel true to us even if they're not”

Yesterday I was watching a movie with my cousins at my place, and we really loved the movie.
The story of the movie is well developed that whoever watches it gets emotionally attached to
the character. Why we should take metal health seriously that has depicted so well in this
movie. Now I would give my opinion about the movie.

Violet Markey and Theodore Finch are two teenagers living in a remote Indiana town who are
unhappy. Finch is a loner who is considered a freak by other students, and Violet is secretly
struggling with Survivor Guilt. They met on the bridge where her sister died nine months
earlier in a car accident. Violet made it out of the car accident alive, but she hasn't been in one
since. On her sister's nineteenth birthday, she sees herself perched on the ledge of the bridge.
Finch climbs up next to her, attempting to talk her out of committing suicide. The movie is all
about how two teenagers keep supporting each other in their bad times. They both partnered
together in a school project where they had to explore the whole Indiana. Finch searches for
Violet on Facebook, looking at her sister's car crash, going over Violet's old fiction, and talking
with her online. Finch and Violet travels around Indiana by bike to see the chosen sites for the
project because after the car accident Violet scared of going in anywhere in car. So, they ride
their bikes to Indiana's highest point. Violet decides to ride in Finch car to see a miniature roller
coaster that is too far away to travel by bike. Violet again starts writing for the first time after
her sister’s death and she even started talking about her sister to Finch which she never did
with anyone else. Violet started to heal, and she fell in love with Finch. Finch, on the other
hand, appears to act recklessly. He also goes missing for days at a time without contacting
anyone. He vanishes under the water one day while swimming with Violet at the Blue Hole.
Violet is distressed by the time he reappears and presses him to tell her all about himself. He
tells her that his father used to abuse him when he was a little kid and that his mother is no
longer in his life. One day Finch and Violet stays outside for whole night which upsets Violet’s
parents. On the same day at school Finch fought Violet’s friend Roamer for calling him
“Freak”. Violet broke up the fight and ended up in the principal’s office on the other hand
Finch took off in his car and attended a support session group recommended by his counselor.
In the support session he met Amanda who tells the group about her “Bulimia “and her two
suicide attempts. After leaving the school Violet went straight to Finch’s house where she met
his sister Kate who works at a bar and they both talked about Finch, after sometimes she left
the house for work. While working at the bar Finch came to meet Kate and talked about their
father which made Kate worried, but Finch reassured her that he’s okay. When reaches home
he saw Violet was waiting for him in the house. Violet begged him to open up to her about her
problem, but he refuses and asked Violet to leave the house. Violet told her father about how
she and Finch met, and he is concerned about him disappearing. So, her father suggested her
to go and check him up in his place but when she reaches her house, she found out that Finch
again disappeared and so she started looking for him and after some time she went to blue hole
where they both went for swimming and there, she saw Finch’s cloths and watch abandoned
she immediately realized he had drowned and he’s never coming back this time. Violet sees
the map they used for travel while recovering from Finch's death, and finds the last place they
were meant to visit together highlighted in red. It is the Travelers' Prayers Chapel, a spot where
people can sleep and where mourners can be forgiven. In the guest book she discovers his
signature. As Finch is gone Violet had to finish the school project alone. She reads aloud her
article on Finch's lessons. Violet swims alone in the Blue Hole in the final scene.

Now talking about acting Justice Smith as Theodore Finch and Elle Fanning as Violet
Markey both of them played their respective character very well especially Violet Markey
showed how a broken person can heal from a very deep mental wound. Theodore Finch also
acted very well in this movie he showed us how our parents’ behavior can affect our life
when we grow up. Alexandra Shipp as Kate Finch played the role of elder sister of Theodore
Finch. She played the role of elder sister very well. Kelli O’Hara as Sheryl Markey and Luke
Wilson as James Markey they played the role of parents of Violet Markey. In this movie
Sheryl Markey and James Markey showed us how a parent should support their children in
their hard times and supporting them throughout the journey.

I like the whole movie but there is one specific scene which was favorite that was when Finch
and Violet went to visit one of their project sites by Finch’s car which was a miniature roller
coaster and that was the first time Violet rode a car after her sister’s death in car accident.

“All the Bright Places “conveys what it's like to handle something out of your reach,
particularly when you don't know who to turn to for help. Anyone you meet may be fighting
a silent war, and this book teaches us to always to treat others with kindness and compassion.

This movie is R rated, so no one under 17 should watch this movie or they can watch this
with a guardian present and now a days most of the films are based on action, lame jokes, pop
culture, meaningless story to attract the mass people. But “All the Bright Places “is a movie
with an amazing story and the plots are arranged very well in this movie. I would like to
recommend everyone to watch this movie and specially the parents should watch it.

I would like to rate this movie 4 out of 5 for the amazing story and 4.5 out 5 for actors who
played their role very well.
