INTRODUCTION TO PHILOSOPHY

Name: Alfonso, Rochelle Elaine L.

Year & Section: 12 Faith
Date: August 20, 2021

ASSESSMENT:

Direction: Explain philosophically the following thesis statements. Minimum of 5 sentences and
maximum of 10 sentences.

1. “An unexamined life is not worth living.”

In the context of Philosophy, our ability to think from a deeper perspective is a gift that is unique
compared to all beings. It would be a total waste if we do not utilize this gift given to us. This
statement says that the ultimate goal of life is to discover. Through discovery, we learn new
things. We should not engage in a passive lifestyle wherein we just let things be. There are
many things waiting to be discovered and its up to us to figure it out

2. “Man starves for visions and thirst for understanding.”

In this statement, I think visions refer to omniscience or the state of knowing everything. We
always had the desire to know more because curiosity is innate in all of us. I think the thirst for
understanding is unquenchable because no matter how much we learn; we are still left with
questions. That is why philosophy is an infinite pursuit for knowledge

3. “Only when a man comes into visual contact with light does he realize that the sun’s
brightness altogether transcends his power of vision.”

From my understanding, knowledge is gained through experience. Learning something through

first hand experiences arises opportunities for reflection. During reflection, you asses and ask
yourself with questions that would definitely make you wonder.
