The Global climate legislation and Business ethics in Bangladesh

What is global climate legislation?

A global climate law is a law whose main agenda is to protect the climate from damages, and
reduce the pollution rate at a level 0 by 2050 (Averchenkova, Fankhauser & Finnegan, 2020).
This climate change impacts negatively on our natural resources as a result day by day we lost
many of our natural resources which are not renewable. If the system continued by 2030 the
whole world may face resource scarcity problems. Researchers claim that if we do not control
our carbon dioxide, after a certain period we can’t control that gas anymore (Uddin, Khan &
Mohammad, 2015). Because of huge pollution (especially CO2 emission) global warming &
ocean temperature rate increase, sea level rising which causes Ozone depletion, acid rain, and so
many natural disasters (Grossman, 2017, P.235).

Which country will take initiative global climate legislation law

In the early 1990’s American president H.W. Bush proposed an agenda whether he discussed the
global climate safety issues. Based on that he proposed and signed an agreement whether he
made up a new association which is known as United Nations Framework Convention on
Climate Change (UNFCCC) (Averchenkova, Fankhauser & Finnegan, 2020). On that
framework, he signed and committed to his nations that he is more committed and aware about
his actions regarding the nature safety issues (Grossman, 2017,p.249). After that, he invites all
other countries' nations so that everyone can come together to protect the global climate via their
sites (Ami, 2018). To fight for this global pollution lonely not possible. If every country came
together it will be possible in every aspect.

Now more than 197 countries signed and became the member of UNFCCC. (Averchenkova,
Fankhauser & Finnegan, 2020). Every year they arrange a seminar whether they passed some
laws which may help to protect the world environment. This environment law makes the
business person more accountable towards the enlisted nations. There has a monitor community
that inspection the member countries' progression does the member country is serious that
passing agenda or not. If any county failed to maintain its agenda those countries face many
difficulties many times (Uddin, Khan & Mohammad, 2015).

1
What are their current agenda

In 2016 they do Paris Agreement which was signed by the 196 parties and whose main agenda is
to reduce the global warming rate below 2 and probably 1.5 degrees Celsius (Averchenkova,
Fankhauser & Finnegan, 2020). Recently global world mostly focused on natural friendly
products rather than plastic and another chemical one. Researchers found that natural and
decomposed products hamper less than plastic products. That’s why all the international and
multinational organizations are more invest in the eco-friendly product.

Business ethics and it’s implication in BD to protect environment

Business ethics as a phenomenon and subject give guideline and directions to the business
persons on what is right or wrong, what should they need to do and what shouldn’t. Bangladesh
signed for the UNFPCC on 9th June 1992 and they ratified on 15th April 1994. Every year
Bangladesh environment law includes many new agendas so that they can act according to the
UNFCCC agenda basis (Averchenkova, Fankhauser & Finnegan, 2020).

However, Bangladesh's environment and protection law that not much active though. In most
cases, they don’t inspect the organization's manufacturing process and in many cases, they do
permit to set up an organization that may cause environmental pollution. According to
Bangladesh Environment law, every industrial area needs to be established far from the local
area and after a certain level; an organization can pollute the air, water, and soil. If the
organization produces more harmful pesticides Bangladesh govt. has the right to stop that
organization's production. Recently many organizations requested permission to do operations on
Sundarban and other coastal areas but Bangladesh govt. prohibited to do that because it is against
environmental law (Townshend, Fankhauser, & Matthews, 2018, p.180).

Many organizations concern about that issues and are more focused on sustainability things
rather than chemical and non-eco-friendly products. In Bangladesh majority of the fashion
brands tries to use paper bag rather than plastic (Grossman, 2017,p.244). Even majority of the
processed food manufacturer also focused on paper bag packaging systems rather than other
ones. Every year Bangladesh environment protection committee inspection the manufacturing
organizations' machinery and their pollution rate. Even many organizations always inspect their

2
machinery working capabilities so that they can protect the environment (Uddin, Khan &
Mohammad, 2015). Some CSR activities of organizations to protect environment

Recently the majority of the organizations are more into CSR activities as part of Business
ethics. They felt that by participating in those activities they show responsibility to the
environment (Townshend, Fankhauser, & Matthews, 2018, p.150). And many of them concern
this is part of business ethics. For example, Coca-Cola now took an agenda that they clean up the
coastal areas and collect all the plastic and others pesticides and help to save marine lives. Even
Dutch Bangla bank & BAT both invest millions of taka for afforestation (Ami, 2018). Because
they think that if they do something for nature they will get from nature in return. Not only has
that Unilever also spent millions of taka on the clean water service project. All those strategies
make the organization more transparent and accountable to the international arena. Recently
many boutique shops represent natural die cloths rather than the chemical product (Uddin, Khan
& Mohammad, 2015).

Conclusion

Finally can state that, if the global climate legislation is not introduced world faces varieties of
difficulties. Because there has no specific guideline through which they can save their
environment. This global legislation not only protects the environment but also ensures
sustainability in many aspects. Every organization is now looking for sustainability issues. If
they are more into nature they can save natural resources and also support from them
