THE THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

There are fundamentally three major debates in education; they concern the
conception of education, of learning, and of content.

The questions revolving around the first debate are the following: What are
the goals of education? What is the role of the school? What is the role of the
community? From the second debate on the conception of learning, five questions
emerge: What is the role of the teacher? What is the role of the student? What are
the teaching/learning strategies to be used? What type of evaluation should be used?
What material and pedagogical resources are available? The third debate on the
conception of content focuses on finding answers to the four following questions:
What are the objectives? What are the elements of content? What are the outcomes?
What are the criteria of evaluation?

These are the two questions we propose to answer in this section. What is the
testing ground of the present research and what methodology will be used? But first,
it would seem important to sketch a brief outline of the important contributions in the
field of education. This will allow us to construct a theoretical framework.

THE INTERNET

Studying by Internet is wonderful and easier. Internet has many interesting things
and the possibility of finding tips of different subjects: newspapers, science, shopping,
history, geography, culture, fun stuff, games, etc. “The Internet is the greatest
information resource mankind has ever known”, said Vicky Dahn, technology and
curriculum specialist in the State Office of Education U.S. In fact, the trick for teacher
in an era of information glut is to teach students how to effectively retrieve
information without becoming so mired in the search that focus is lost. Possibly,
almost everybody knows that, but there is something that teachers have to think
about: Most of the sites are in English. As we can guess, kids can search on the
Internet by themselves, but teachers’ supervision is essential to electronic research.
The information they can find is enormous, but not everything is true. Because of that,
it is important to teachers to decide one aspect or area to work on and help kids not
only to focus on it but also to retrieve the useful information.

However, is it possible to find resources for helping teachers and kids to study
English? The answer is YES! Teachers can find teaching tips, worksheets, references
and other resources to enrich the course they are teaching.
