Failure is Not an Option

Tests are the most annoying and difficult part of any student’s academic career.
Sometimes, when you sit down to study for an exam, you can find the sheer amount of material
in the syllabus to be overwhelming. To ace your exams, you can follow three simple rules: take
good notes, make a study group, and study incrementally.
Firstly, be sure to take good notes during classes. Note-taking is an art; students who can
master this will never be caught unawares for a test. While teachers do prioritize their textbooks,
handouts and PowerPoint slides, often the most important topics are covered in lectures. You
should either get good at jotting things down or start using a Voice Recording app on your phone
to record lectures. That way you will be sure to have every detail of the course noted down.
Notes are precious commodities, so treat them with care.
Secondly, make a study group. Studying in a group can be crucial for your preparation. If
you are taking a course with friends, open a group chat or Facebook messenger thread where you
can discuss the course and share any notes you have. If you do not know anyone in the course,
you can befriend those you are sitting next to. Do not study with only the best students in your
class; sometimes, helping someone who is struggling in the course can help you learn the
material better. Once you make a study group, you will find that preparation becomes very easy.
Thirdly, do not save all your studying for the night before your exam. Students in
university tend to procrastinate on their studies and place more importance on working for their
clubs, attending family gatherings and hanging out with friends, than their schoolwork. That is
perfectly normal but when test day approaches, they are left scrambling to prepare. In order to
not fall into this trap, it is best to study incrementally. If you study for an hour or two every day,
even on days when you do not have exams coming up, you will only need to revise on the night
before the test.
Thus, by learning to take proper notes, studying with a group of friends or classmates,
and preparing for your tests long before your exams, you can start doing much better in class. If
you follow these simple steps, you will never fail an exam again!

The Perfect Gift

Booker T. Washington once wrote, “Those who are happiest, are those who do the most
for others.” I firmly believe in this quote because I become happy whenever I manage to find the
perfect gift for a friend or loved one. In order to buy the perfect gift, you can follow three easy
steps: get to know the person, purchase the gift in advance and buy nice wrapping paper and
card.
The first step is to get to know the person you are buying a gift for. Imagine receiving a
gift you have no use for or getting a present that you do not like; it is sure to make you and the
person giving you this gift uncomfortable. Therefore, when you are the gift-giver, try to get to
know the other person’s likes and dislikes. A good gift is something that the other person wants
or needs. A great gift is something that shows the other person how well you know and how
much you care about him or her.
The second step is to purchase or prepare the gift well in advance. When a great idea for
a gift pops into your head, begin looking for it immediately. It is best not to put off buying it
until just a day or two before the occasion. Nowadays, it is very easy to buy things because of the
internet. When you know what you want, you can search on Google for online or local retailers
that sell that particular product. You can even call the shop and place a special order or
customize the present, if you wish.
As your final step, buy gift-wrapping paper and write a personalized card. It looks bad if
you give someone a gift in a shopping bag; instead, buy wrapping paper and write a card. Visit
your local gift shop and purchase wrapping paper that suits the taste of the person you are buying
a gift for. Choose a card from their selection and write a note in it even if it already has writing.
In case they do not have a nice gift-wrapping paper or perfect card in stock, visit the shop early.
To sum up, giving gifts is a beautiful way to tell someone how much they mean to you.
By getting to know the person, purchasing the gift in advance and getting wrapping paper and a
card, you can make your loved ones perfectly happy.

Please, Hire Me!

I was extremely nervous for my first job interview. I remember that I stammered while
talking, my palms were sweaty and failed to make eye contact with the interviewer. After my
interview, weeks passed and I did not get called back. Later, when I spoke to HR representative
personally, she told me that I did not get hired because I gave a bad interview. That experience
taught me a few lessons; if you want to give a good interview, the steps you must follow are
preparing for the interview, conducting yourself properly and writing a thank you letter.
The most important thing to do before an interview is to prepare. You must show your
prospective employer that you are both interested in and knowledgeable about your position.
Look up the company on the internet or talk to anyone you may know who has worked there.
You may also send an email to HR and ask for more information about the post you have applied
for. This will ensure that when you sit down to give the interview, you are not caught by surprise
and can give intelligent and informed answers.
Next, it is vitally important that you conduct yourself with proper manners during the
interview. Make sure to dress professionally, either in suits or pantsuits, not tuxedoes or saris.
When you are waiting to be called in, sit quietly and do not disturb anyone. During the interview,
speak cordially and maintain proper posture and eye contact with everyone. Treat the interview
as a conversation and do not be nervous. When the interview is over, ask a question to
demonstrate your interest.
Then, after your interview, remember to send a thank you letter. You will never be the
only person interviewing for a job. As such, it can be difficult for your employer to remember
you after interviewing many other candidates. A good practice is to send a thank you letter,
reminding your interviewers of the conversation you had and thanking them for their time and
consideration. This can also be an opportunity to express further interest in the job and ask any
follow-up questions you can think of.
Finally, the job interview can be an intensely stressful experience. But by preparing for
the interview, conducting yourself properly during the interview, and sending a thank you letter
after the interview, you will stand a greater chance of being given a job offer.
