PROGRAM OUTCOMES After completion of the program, the students should:


1. Demonstrate proficiency in oral and written communication skills;
2. Produce a creative (i.e., brochure, reflection papers, etc.) that conveys personal thoughts
of Rizal’s life and works for the current generation integrate social, environmental and
cultural issues for criminology students;
3. Recognize the importance of Rizal's ideals and teachings in relation to present
conditions and situations in the society;
4. Have a deep and principled understanding of how criminology processes relate to larger
historical, social, cultural, and political processes;
5. Appreciate the role of national heroes in the historical development of the country; and
6. Develope the moral values and principles of the criminology students as reflected by
Jose Rizal’s ideals to strengthen nationalism, patriotism, national identity, love of
humanity, and respect for human rights for nation building.
COURSE DESCRIPTION As mandated by Republic Act 1425 and guided by the Vision and Mission of the School, this
course covers the life and works of the country’s national hero, Jose Rizal. Among the topics
covered are Rizal’s biography and his writings, particularly the novels Noli Me Tangere and El
Filibusterismo, some of his essays, and various correspondences. Moreover, the course deals with
Rizal’s philosophy, ideals of freedom and nationalism for which our hero lived and died. It likewise
deals with the influences of Rizal towards 1896 revolution and the different perceptions that
people have upon the national hero.
The course also aims at promoting critical view of the social order in which he lived,
through an analysis of his works and letters, his opinions on liberalism, government,
religion, education, as well as his philosophy of living and the relevance of these
ideas to the Contemporary Philippine Society. The Criminology students which are future
leaders and servant of the global community, will benefit from this course particularly on
matters pertaining to nationalism, patriotism, national identity, love of humanity, and respect for
human rights through equality, justice, freedom, sincerity, leadership, and building of collective
consciousness that precede the establishment of commitment, excellence, and sense of
community.
A study of the life, works and writings of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, the national hero and martyr, is relevant
to the 21st century as they relate to the socio-political situation of the Philippines during his time
and its implication to our present time. It traces the hero’s life, ideals, concept of education, good
government, and nationalism as embodied in his writings, particularly the Noli Me Tangere and El
Filibusterismo.
COURSE OUTCOMES At the end of the course, students should be able to:
1. Discuss Jose Rizal’s within the context of 19th century Philippines;
2. Analyze Rizal’s various works, particularly the novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo;
3. Organize Rizal’s ideas into various themes;
4. Demonstrate a critical reading or primary sources;
5. Interpret the values that can be derived from studying Rizal’s life and works;
6. Display an appreciation for education and love of country;
7. Internalize early Filipino’s initiative in establishing a sense of nationhood;
8. Perform and adapt relevant issues of Rizal on actual projects and exercises;
9. Learn and understand the life of Dr. Jose P. Rizal from his birth to his martyrdom;
10. Analyze the impact of Rizal’s life in relation to his contribution on the socio-political situation
of the Philippines then and the present time;
11. Critically understand Rizal’s heroism and realize the significance of his ideas in the present
time; and
12. Interpret the selected poem, essays and novels and its impact to socio-political situation
during the past and present time.
