Factors Influencing Attitudes about Sexual Matters

When becoming teenagers, the Estrogen hormone in females and Testosterone

hormone in males cause teenagers to have sexual feelings. There are mental and
emotional changes by having special feeling and feeling interested in the opposite sex
and also conducting sexual behaviours differently.

1. Family
The attitude towards sex comes from childhood, parenting teaching and behaviours
of parents towards sex. For example, some parents do not talk to their children about
sex. If children are interested in sex, they will be punished which causes children to have
a bad attitude and think that sex is not appropriate. When these children grow up, they
might have sexual problems. Thus, family should teach about sex correctly, exchange
opinions including providing facts about sex. This will help children understand the nature
of sex and conduct themselves appropriately.

2. Culture
The change of society and technology that can easily communicate causes
teenagers to receive cultures from other countries, especially western culture that
influences the attitude towards sex, such as touching, kissing and having sexual
relationships before appropriate time. Teenagers
should carefully consider and accept only cultures that
are suitable to Thai society in order to prevent problems
and bad effects towards oneself and family.

3. Friend
A friend is important for teenagers. If the
teenagers associate with bad friends, they tend to
behave badly. Besides, friends and seniors also
influences teenagers’ behaviours. Sometimes, seniors Teenagers should behave appropriately
when they are in public. Do not hold
can persuade teenagers to do bad things. Therefore, hands or hug each other.

28
teenagers should associate with the senior who has good habits, has their own opinion,
and be able to think differently from friends if something is not appropriate especially the
value of having sex.

4. Media
There are various kinds of inappropriate media which can
access to teenagers quickly, such as comics and novels that
have a sexual picture and story, the Internet that has porn
pictures, loading video clips through mobile phone, and
computer games that have violence and sexual matter. If the
teenager receives information from inappropriate media, it will
affect the attitude about sex. Therefore, teenagers should
receive information from appropriate media that provides
knowledge and ideas for living. Mobile phone is the
technology that easily
accesses to teenagers.

the patient will feel itching while urinating and will fester from urethra. For women, there
is no symptom showing, instead, women will be disease vectors. If the infection continues

through vessels, the patient can have arthritis and heart disease. The disease can spread
