Basic Concepts:
The analysis of physical growth conditions compared to standards that
will show what is your range in the standard. This will help you improve your
behaviour and control the related factors, including self-development to growth
with age.
Age-Appropriate Self-Development and Physical Growth

Looking at weight, height and age with


the standard will let you know the physical
growth condition. This will help for developing
oneself to have growth with age and help
make age-appropriate development.
Teenagers might have different growth so
that the appearance will be different.

1. Analysing Conditions of Their Own Physical Growth with


Standard Criteria
Criteria of physical growth standard comes from
collecting data about weight and height in children from
various groups of age and sex. Normally, criteria standard
has 1 type, which is the criteria standard that shows data
as a number and growth graph.
Watching the growth with reference criteria graphs can
use data of weight, height or age plotting on the graph,
and then linking each of the data points in order to show
growth level and change. Normally, physical growth can be evaluated as follows:
1. Weight evaluation based on age. The comparison of the weight should be based
on different ages. If the evaluation is lower than criteria, it will show a nutritional deficiency
problem, especially not enough protein and energy.
2. Height evaluation based on age. The comparison of the height should be based
on different ages. If the evaluation is shorter than criteria, it will show long term nutritional
deficiency.
3. Weight evaluation based on height. This is growth observation that will show
whether weight is balanced to height or not. Moreover, it will show shape that whether it
is good, overweight, or thin.

factors. If we eat the right factors, it will lead to good development.

3. Guidelines for Self-Development to Growth with Age
Self-development to growth with age of both physical and mental health is suitable
for age. Self-development to growth with age has the main points as follows:

Sports will help support growth.

1. Eat meals that have nutrients from all 5 food groups.


2. Exercise regularly at least 30 minutes a day, 3 days per week.
3. Get enough sleep at least 8 hours or relax by doing hobbies or other
recreational activities in order to help release stress.
4. Avoid addictive substances.
5. Do not have sexual activity if you are not ready.
6. Health Check-up at least once a year.
Self-development to growth with age is everyone’s responsibility in order to promote
physical and mental health and live peacefully.

1. Read the following article and answer the questions. (5 marks)


Research from 16,000 children in school at Yangming University, Taiwan found
that 16% of children at the age from 10 – 12 years old worried about their weight.
It is shown that teenagers under the age of 15 are obsessed with being thin. There
are many factors such as imitating a celebrity or model including all of the
commercials. Nutritionists say that diet might cause many diseases, for example,
Nutrition deficiency diseases, Major depressive disorder, Bulimia, Anorexia
Nervosa (Patients will always feel that they are fat all the time.) and is also bad for
appearance because of frustration. Thai Nutritionists say that children at the age
between 10–12 years old need good nutrition for physical growth so they don’t
have to do any dieting. According to the movements or activities of children, it has
already helped body burning. Also, the most important thing that children need is
having 5 food groups, avoid drinking soda and snacks including all fast food.
Exercising regularly can also protect children from obesity and craziness towards
being thin.
