Day 3: CHINA INTERNATIONAL ENTERPRISE

Day 5: DISNEY

2. Create a pictorial image of how HR works at WDC and be prepared to share your image
in class.

WDC really a magical place?
4. Are WDC’s HR practices transferable outside the United States?

Day 6: XIAMEN AIRLINES


1. What were the major changes made to the design of the pilot compensation package
at Xiamen Airlines? How did these changes help to improve employee motivation?
2. Besides salaries and bonuses, what were some of the other human resources
(HR)/leadership practices that Xiamen Airlines used to retain experienced pilots and
increase their engagement?
3. If you were the HR director at Xiamen Airlines, what would be your concerns
about the new compensation system, and how would you plan to address them?

Day 7: SOLVAY GROUP


1. What is the talent-management strategy of Solvay? Why does it have an international
assignment program? What are the benefits and costs to Solvay, as well as to the
executives who participate?
2. Assess Solvay’s international assignment strategy over the past 10 years. What worked
well? What did not?
3. At the end of the case, the firm has to make decisions about individual challenges
facing four executives in the international assignment program. How would you solve their
challenges? Would you grant their requests? What would be the consequences of your
decisions?
4. Solvay has been redesigning its international program. Assess the success of these
changes.
