Bindusara’s son Ashoka sent a Buddhist

mission to Sri Lanka led by Ashoka’s son,
Mahinda Thera. At that time Sri Lanka was
ruled by King Thissa. Ashoka offered the King
of Sri Lanka his title “DEAVANAPIYA”
meaning LOVED BY GOD, according to
chronicles. Both Mahinda and King Thissa
spoke in a language each other understood.
Also I heard that Pandukabhaya, a former
king of Sri Lanka who was the great
grandfather of Thissa was born in India and
related to Chandragupta. Then Thiissa and
Ashoka are related. Can you find any evidence
to prove this relationship? Many thanks for
your kind attention.

Hi

First of all, you have a wonderful blog, I

simply like reading your blog. I will contribute
my part to support your works.

I am curious to know if Chanakaya really did

say that “Son of a foreign mother cannot be
an emperor”? If yes, It would be interesting to
read excerpts of the text that refers to such a
thing.

Looking forward to your response

No books of mauryan era exist as they

were burnt in raids in india. Only
information is from foreign books like
Megasthanese and pillars or stupas.
Whether Helena had a son is debatable
point. Helena’s son cannot be heir
anyways because he was younger son of
Chandragupta Maurya. He had many
elder brothers who were before him in
line of succession. So Justin could not
become emperor. Hence Chankya
bringing this point is not possible. What
Chankya would have told is that Helena
cannot become Chief Queen and Empress
of Maurya as she was a foreigner. Thats
possible.
