50 mm of both faces of wall, remainder of sleeve placed with plastic compound or lead,
held in place by heavy escutcheon plates holted at both ends to flanged ends of sleeve.
E. All penetrations of floor slab at mechanical rooms above grade shall be sealed off and
water-proofed.

2.03 SECHEDULE OF CONDUIT APPLICATIONS

Unless otherwise shown on the drawings or described in the specifications, conduits are
to be as described below:
A. Rigid heavy gauge steel conduit: Is to be used for all exposed installations comprising
lighting, power, low current, communication and signal system wiring, including plant
rooms & service areas. Use rigid steel conduit in areas classified as hazardous
explosive area. Flexible conduit is not acceptable.
Conduit termination in sheet metal enclosures is to be festened by lock nuts and
terminate with bushing. Install locknuts inside and outside enclosure.
B. Rigid heavy gauge PVC conduit: Is to be used for lighting and power circuits, low
current, communication and signal system wiring, where embedded in concrete
masonry, under floor & above false ceilings when the false ceiling is not used as return
plenum and in furred walls. Use flexible PVC conduits from outlet boxes to fixtures in
conjunction with the use of PVC conduits.
C. Flexible conduit: Of same material as corresponding conduit system is to be used for

connection to motors, vibrating and non-rigidly fixed equipment and to fixtures

installed in false ceilings.
Flexible steel conduit is to be used in movable position and from outlet boxes to
fixtures over false ceilings when used as a return plenum. Conduits are to be liquid tight
in damp areas.
D. Liguid tight flexible steel galvanized conduit is to be used in one or more of the
following conditions:
Exterior location: Moist or humid atmosphres where condensate can be expected to
accumulate.
Corrosive atmosphere: Subjected to water spray or dripping oil, water or grease.

PART - 3 EXECUTION

3.01 INSTALLATION - GENERAL

A. Install all branch circuits concealed within finished areas of building.
B. Exposed overhead wiring may be used in switchgear room, mechanical equipment
rooms, electric closets, and unfinished storage and equipment rooms.
C. Run exposed condiut in straight lines at right angles to or parallel with walls, beams or
columns.
D. Keep conduit away from waterlines or heating duct lines. Where crossings are
unavoidable, leave minimum 150 mm clearance.
E. Do not cross conduit in front of access door in HVAC duct, pipe shafts vents or
openings.
F. Install no conduit larger than 20 mm DIA in floor slabs or concrete columns. Do not
install multiple conduits in a single concrete column without Architects approval.
1. Where installed in composite floors, conduit runs shall have no crossovers.

3.02 UNDERGROUND INSTALLATIONS

A. Encase underground PVC conduits (50 mm DIA minimum)in concrete where passing
under roadways.
B. Steel conduits in contact with earth or a vapor barrier, that are not completely encased
in concrete: Coat with 2 coats asphaltum before installation, or use PVC coated steel
conduits.
C. Install underground conduit 750 mm minimum below grade (unless otherwise shown
on drawing). Do not backfill before inspection by the Client and/or Engineer.
Concrete encasements: Provide 750 mm minimum below grade (Unless otherwise
shown on drawing).
