The crime rate nowadays is decreasing compared to the past due to advanced technology
which can prevent and solve the crime. To what extent do you agree?

In recent years, the rate of crime has decreased in comparision comparison with the past
because advances in technology can prevent and tackle the crime. In my opinion, I agree
with this idea for a number of reasons, which will be outlined in this essay

On the one hand, I believe that technological developments not only can prevent but also
may solve the crime. Firstly, installing security cameras can record events and keep them
stored in on the computer. In case of any law-breaking activities, these video clips could
be used as a an important evidence in the court of law. Moreover, there is nothing better
than a piece of video evidence to prove guility guilty because even the judges cannot
deny it since it is produced by a machine. For instance, recently a murder case in Quang
Binh province was solved as the CCTV footage captured the face of the offender.
Furthermore, CCTV cameras act as a deterrent (,) because criminals become afraid of
committing crimes when they realize that there are a lot of CCTV cameras installed.

On the other hand, forensic science is also a popular method these days to solve difficult
cases. Especially, in case of a murder, the forensic department personally visits the site of
the heinous crime to collect the blood samples or fingerprints to test them in the
laboratory and produce effective evidence. Forensic reports are considered as to be the
most accurate ones due the process they go through. To illustrate, studies show that old
cases pending for a long time in Viet Nam Vietnam began to resolve only after they
adopted the modern techniques inspired by other developed countries such as the UK or
the US.

In conclusion, for the reasons I have mentioned above, I strongly believe that the
advancements of technology in the present times can deter and solve criminal offenses,
which helps to decrease the crime rate.
Some universities now offer their courses on the Internet so that people can study online. Is
this a positive or negative development?

It is true that online courses are becoming a common feature of university education.
Although there are some drawbacks of Internet-based learning, I would argue that there
are far more benefits.

The main drawback of the trend towards online university courses is that there is less
direct interaction. Students may not have the opportunity to engage face-to-face with
their teachers, and will instead have to rely on written forms of communication.
Similarly, students who study online do not come into direct contact with each other, and
this could have a negative impact on peer support, discussion and exchange of ideas. For
example, whereas students on traditional courses can attend seminars and even discuss
their subjects over coffee after lessons, online learners are restricted to chatting through
website forum areas. These learners may also lack the motivation and element of
competition that face-to-face group work brings.

Despite the negatives mentioned above, I believe that online university courses are a
positive development for various reasons. Firstly, they allow learners to study in a
flexible way, meaning that they can work whenever and wherever is convenient, and they
can cover the material at their own pace. Secondly, the cost of a university education can
be greatly reduced, while revenues for institutions may increase as more students can be
taught. Finally, online learning offers open access to anybody who is willing to study,
regardless of age, location, ability and background. For example, my uncle, who is 65
years old, has recently enrolled on an online MBA course in a different country, which
would have been impossible in the days before Internet-based education.

In conclusion, while I recognise the possible disadvantages of online learning, I consider

it to be a positive development overall.

IELTS Writing Task 1: full essay

Here's my full essay for last week's line graph question:

The line graph compares the percentage of people aged 65 or more in three
countries over a period of 100 years.

It is clear that the proportion of elderly people increases in each country between 1940
and 2040. Japan is expected to see the most dramatic changes in its elderly population.

In 1940, around 9% of Americans were aged 65 or over, compared to about 7% of

Swedish people and 5% of Japanese people. The proportions of elderly people in the
USA and Sweden rose gradually over the next 50 years, reaching just under 15% in 1990.
By contrast, the figures for Japan remained below 5% until the early 2000s.

Looking into the future, a sudden increase in the percentage of elderly people is predicted
for Japan, with a jump of over 15% in just 10 years from 2030 to 2040. By 2040, it is
thought that around 27% of the Japanese population will be 65 years old or more, while
the figures for Sweden and the USA will be slightly lower, at about 25% and 23%
respectively.

11/01/2020 The line graph shows the percentage of New Zealand population from
1950 to 2050

The line chart illustrates past changes and future predictions of the New Zealand
population over a 100-year period from 1950 to 2050.

Overall, people aged 65 and over accounted for the highest percentage of the New
Zealand population throughout the period, including the predicted future figures. In
addition, while the figures for the 25 to 37 year-olds and over-65 year-olds are predicted
to decline over the 100 year period, those aged 14 and under and 38 to 45 years-old are
expected to increase.

From 1950 to approximately 1990, the percentage of people aged 38-45 and those aged
65 and over both increased from around 25% to 50%, and 60% to 70% of the population
respectively. Both these age groups then started to decline and are predicted to continue
declining until 2050 to reach approximately 40% and 55% respectively.

The graph shows the opposite trend for the remaining age groups with 25 to 37 year-olds
making up around 20% of the population and people aged 14 and under making up about
5%. By 2050, it is predicted that those aged 14 or under will make up 20% of the
population, while those aged 25 to 37 will only be a very small percentage.
Some people think environmental protection is the responsibility of politicians, not
individuals as individuals can do too little. Do you agree or disagree?

Some people believe that the responsibility to protect the environment should fall
upon politicians and not individuals as there is not much that ordinary people can
do. In my opinion, the responsibility to protect the environment should not fall
upon politicians 190 alone because ordinary citizens can make a significant
contribution.

Politicians can urge the government to impose new laws against actions that
damage the environment. For instance, one of the major factors leading to
environmental pollution is the overuse of plastic products, like bottles and bags,
and this can be stopped if the government issues an official ban on all companies
from using plastic packaging. In addition, the rate of deforestation can also be
reduced if high-ranking bureaucrats agree to impose strict punishments, such as
long-term imprisonment and heavy fines, on those who cut down trees illegally.
However, besides introducing and enforcing new laws and regulations, I doubt that
there is any further action that politicians can take to protect the environment.

I believe that ordinary people, through small, everyday actions, can also greatly
contribute to protecting the environment. First, citizens in many countries, like the
Netherlands, have now shifted towards using bicycles and subway trains for their
daily travel instead of cars, which has so far helped reduce a tremendous amount of
CO2 released into the air, and improved air quality. Second, the problem of
polluted oceans has also been tackled in many places thanks to groups of young
people who voluntarily spend their time cleaning up beaches, or even diving into
water to pick up trash. For example, many students in Nha Trang, a coastal city of
Vietnam, spent nearly their whole summer holiday in 2018 keeping the beaches of
their hometown clean by collecting all the trash from tourists.

In conclusion, I hold the view that politicians alone cannot deal with all
environmental problems, and therefore individuals should also make a contribution
to protecting the environment.
In 2010, the number of registered passenger vehicles was 11 million, compared to
commercial vehicles and motorcycles, at 2.3 million and 570,000 respectively

The figures for light and heavy trucks also increased over the measured period, with
heavy trucks rising 10.2%, from 384,000 to 423,000, and light trucks rising 23.5%, from
106,000 to 131,000.

Overall, it can be seen that there are approximately 9 steps in the process, starting from
the collection of corn from the field, and culminating with pure ethanol, ready to be
transported and sold.

The process of producing ethanol from corn starts with the collection and storage of
corn. The corn is then milled and cooked with water for around 4 hours. Once it has been
cooked, it then undergoes a process of fermentation which takes around 48 hours to
complete.

Afterwards, the fermented product is then put through a process which separates the
liquid from the solids. The liquid then needs to be purified, which takes around 5 hours,
while the solid material ends up being a useful by-product of the process. After the liquid
has been purified, it can then be stored before it is shipped to the consumers

On the other hand, I would argue that studying from past events is essential for two
principal reasons. (Bài mẫu IELTS Writing Band 8 và Từ vựng theo chủ đề History
(zim.vn))
On the one hand, the primary reason why some people think that modern
constructions should follow the style of the old ones in local areas is that this helps
preserve traditional and cultural values, which could boost tourism in these areas.
Take Hoi An, which is one of the most famous ancient cities in Vietnam, as an
example. Local people in this city are encouraged to preserve their old houses or
construct new houses in traditional architectural styles. As a result, Hoi An has
become a popular tourist destination that attracts millions of tourists on an annual
basis.

On the other hand, I would argue that people should have the right to make their
own decisions when it comes to building their own house. The first reason is that
many people do not like the style of old buildings in their neighbourhood. Their
rights would be violated if they were forced to live in a house that they do not feel
comfortable about the design. Another reason that needs to be mentioned is cost. It
would be much cheaper to build a modern simple house rather than one which has
to mirror past architectural standards.

It is now possible for scientists and tourists to travel to remote natural

environment, such as South pole.

Do the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?

Recent advancements in technology have enabled humans to travel to distant

places in nature. This is scientifically beneficial to all societies, yet concurrent
tourism activities can contaminate the pristine conditions of these places and
negate the scientific benefits.

In conclusion, exploiting remote natural locations for tourism could nullify the
scientific values they offer and even cause permanent damage to these places. Only
selected organizations and individuals who follow strict rules and regulations to
preserve these places should be allowed to access.
MUSEUM/HISTORY
On the other hand, I would argue that studying from past events is essential for two
principal reasons. History helps young people have thorough insights into their
own culture and how their country has evolved. This is particularly true in case
of Vietnam. The youth need to understand how their ancestors defended the nation
against intruders throughout many dynasties and maintain a sovereign and free
country, which would develop their patriotism and pride. Furthermore, history
depicts the mistakes made in the past, hence helping people to avoid similar ones
in the future.

1. brings no relevant values to the present or future: Không đem lại giá trị thực
tiến cho hiện tại và tương lai

2. no guarantee of the accuracy of information obtained: Không có gì đảm bảo

về sự chính xác của thông tin

3. thorough insights into their own culture and how their country has
evolved: Kiến thức cụ thể về văn hóa và nước nhà đã tiến hóa như thế nào

4. develop their patriotism and pride: Phát triển lòng yêu nước và sự tự hào

ome people say that economic growth is the only way to end hunger and poverty,
while others say that economic growth is damaging the environment so it must be
stopped.

Discuss both the use views and give your opinion.

——————————————————————-

It is undeniable that economic growth has significant impacts on the development

of a country. For that reason, some people consider that economic prosperity is the
only way to eliminate starvation and poverty. Personally, I believe that the
authorities should slow the economic expansion due to its detrimental impacts on
the environment.

There are several reasons why others think that economic development would
reduce poverty and hunger. Firstly, economic growth makes it easier for people to
get jobs. Uganda, For example, has successfully reduced the number of
underprivileged residents. This is because the government conducted economic
reforms, providing jobs for 90% of the working-age population. Secondly, hunger
and poverty are partly due to the shortage of food, some countries with harsh
weather conditions like Japan, food prices are higher than in other countries. By
developing the economy, the government can have enough budget to allocate
technological equipment into agriculture. As a result, crop yield is significantly
increased and food shortages would be addressed.

In spite of the above arguments, I personally believe that the development of the
economy will lead to environmental deterioration. Economic development might
accelerate the process of industrialization, adversely impacting the local
surroundings. For instance, in Vietnam, plenty of industrial factories discharged
untreated and toxic waste into Thi Vai River, leading to water contamination
throughout Dong Nai province. Additionally, because of the lack of land in urban
areas, the authorities are inclined to devastate the forests to carry out more
industrial projects. This trend would disrupt ecological balance and increase the
amount of carbon dioxide, indirectly causing global warming.

In conclusion, while others consider that starvation and poverty would come to an
end by developing the economy, in my opinion, economic growth should be
constrained to protect the environment.
