The Lone She-Wolf

Cind Loh’s parents got married when they were 3 years old and then had her when they were
40. As the only child her childhood was a very lonely one. She had no one to play with at home. In
school she had very few friends but she was just too shy to make new friends.

Her loneliness motivated her to start a blog called The Lone She-Wolf when she was 15 years
old. She wrote about her thoughts, feelings and observations of life. By the time she left school, her
blog already had a few thousand followers. Cindy was very happy to see her blog grew.

While she was at college, she learned how to sell advertisement space on her blog. Eventually
Cindy began to make money. Five years later at just 20 years old, Cindy earned an average of RM500
per month from her blog.

Then she started working as a journalist which allowed her to travel abroad. This time, she
blogged about her experiences in different countries. At 2 years old, she had already gone to Japan,
Spain, New Zealand, Australia, the Philippines, and Switzerland. Income from her blog quadrupled to
RM1500 per month. In the same year, she started her own YouTube channel called The Lone She-Wolf
where she upload videos from her trips.

Cindy quits her fulltime job as a journalist at the age of 35. She was earning more than

FOOD FOR THOUGHT!

For many years, Malaysia has remained as the country with the most number of obese
people within ASEAN. Those who are obese are prone to diseases related to obesity such as
cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and some cancers. Obesity can also lead to psychological
conditions like low self-esteem and depression. Furthermore, obesity affects a person’s quality of
life causing physical changes like breathlessness, snoring tiredness, difficulty in moving around and
arthritis.

Malaysia is a food heaven with all kinds of local and international cuisine available
throughout the country. The fast-food industry is also thriving as people find fast food not only
delicious but convenient too. Undeniably, the love for food has driven obesity to continue to be a
health issue here. There are also factors like the culture of eating late at night and entertaining
guests with food. Great food options, combined with sedentary lifestyle provides the pathway to a
problem.

Consuming a proper diet and regular physical exercises are vital to maintain a normal
weight and prevent obesity. Diets should be balanced with low amount of sugar and fat intake.
Exercises would involve brisk walking, jogging, swimming or cycling for 150-300 minutes per week.
Although there is an awareness on the importance of diet and exercising, the majority of the
population is still in ignorance. Most probably they lack the motivation because of the complacent
life they lead. One way to overcome this problem is through education the public as well as
increasing their awareness of adopting the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

The issue is not going to vanish overnight but the whole nation needs to work together for a
country of healthier people in the future. The Health Ministry which launched health campaigns in
the past should put in more effort towards addressing the rise of obesity especially though
educating the public. While Malaysians may have the means to eat lavishly, they should realise that
