BIG BAZAR ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE

1.DIVISION OF WORK
According to this principle, work should be divided
among individuals and group to ensure that effort and
attention are focused on special portions of the task. A
person is not capable of doing all types of work. Each
job and work should be assigned to the specialist of
his job.
Application of the principle on Big Bazar
In Big Bazar, work is divided into departments and
each individual is assigned work according to his
ability, skills, expertise. In Big Bazar the whole
activity is divided into task groups each dealing with
specific area.

2. DISCIPLINE
According to this principle, worker must be sincere
about the work and organisation, carrying out orders
and instructions from superiors and have faith in
policies and programs of the business enterprise.

In Big Bazar, there are clear and fair agreements
hours of work and criterion for taking leave etc. Each
employees obeys their manager and manager also see
that they follow the rules. If they don’t follow
appropriate action is taken including termination.

3. AUTHORITY AND RESPOSIBILITY


According to this principle, with different designation
there is a different authority and responsibility
workers have. Authority and responsibility go
together or co-existing. If a team leader assign and
work to the members it does mean he will not have
any responsibility if the members don’t complete his/
her work. If he has the authority to give work it also
has responsibility see that whomever he assigned the
work, he/ she has completed it or working on it.

authority to perform their tasks and they also held
responsible for the work they perform. E.g.,
department supervisor is given the authority to
equation of all the things that s required in the
department but at the same time, he is also
responsible for efficient and effective use and
disposal.

4. UNITY OF COMMAND
According to this principle, workers should receive
orders from only one manager. A subordinate should
take order from only one boss, and he should be
responsible and accountable to him.

employees are subordinate to him. The branch
manager is in turn accountable to other top-level
authorities. Thus, each subordinate has to take orders
from one and only one superior and there is no
confusion among the employees regarding the tasks to
be done.

5. UNITY OF DIRECTION
According to this principle, there should be, "One
head and one plan" which means that group efforts on
a particular plan be led and directed by a single
person. It emphasizes the attainment of common goal
under head one head.

a clear vision for employees to follow and help
employees understand the role they play in attaining
goals.

6. CENTRALISATION AND
DECENTRALISATION
The concentration of decision-making authority is
called centralisation whereas its dispersal among
more than ang persons called decentralization.
According to this principle, organization should have
balance between complete centralisation and
decentralization. In general, large organizations have
more decentralization than small organizations.

In BIG BAZAAR they use centralized structure to
ensure that control is maintained over their thousands
of outlets spread across the world and decentralised
structure to provides manager with freedom to make
majority of decision of organization including
recruitment and training of employees etc.

7. SUBORDINATION OF INDIVIDUAL
INTEREST TO THE GENERAL INTEREST
According to this principle, the interests of one person
should not take priority over the interest of the
organisation as a whole, the interest of the business
enterprise ought to come before the interests of the
praise individual workers. In other words, employees
should surrender their personnel interest before the
general interest of the enterprise.

In Big Bazar, employees are required to follow and
implement the same plans and policies that are laid
down by the top management. Employees are not
allowed to take leave or early on days such as
Valentine Day, New Year, Christmas etc due to large
number of visitors in store on these days, however
they are allowed to take leave on other days.
Management ensures that the goals of the firms are
always paramount.

8. ORDER
According to the principle, there should be proper,
systematic, and orderly arrangement of physical and
social factors, such as land, raw materials, tools and
equipment and employees respectively. During sale,
appropriate and specific place for every article and
every place to be used effectively for a particular
activity and commodity.

In BIG BAZAAR, there is both material order and
social order. There was a place for all employees and
equipment’s in the organisation and they were on
their desired place.

9.STABILITY OF TENURE OF PERSONAL


According to the principle, if the members of the team
go on changing the entire process of production will
be disturbed. It is always in the interest of the
enterprise that its trusted, experienced, and trained
employees do not leave the organization. Retaining
productive employees should always be a high
priority of management Recruitment and Selection

In Big Bazar, this principle is partially applied in BIG
BAZAAR. There are employees who are working for
more than 5 years while most of the employees are
working for a year or even less. Also, there are
employees who work part time and also who work as
full time. Also, some of the employees being
aggrieved by their salary tend to leave and search for
new jobs. Some employees are also aggrieved
regarding the growth opportunities in the
organisation.
10. EQUITY
According to this principle, there should not be any
discrimination as regards caste, sex, and religion. An
effective management always accords sympathetic
and human treatment. The management should be
kind, honest and impartial with the employees. This
will create loyalty and devotion among the
employees. Thus, workers should be treated at par at
every level.

In Big Bazar, they do not tolerate discrimination in
employment related decisions, or in business dealings
on the basis of race, colour, ancestry, age, sex, sexual
orientation, religion, disability, ethnicity, national
origin, veteran status, mental status etc. If it is found
that someone is discriminating, necessary action is
taken against the person.

11. INNITIATIVE
According to the principle, the successful
management provides an opportunity to its employees
to suggest their new ideas, experiences, and more
convenient methods of work. The employees, who has
been working on the specific job since long discover
now, better alternative approach and technique of
work. It will be more useful if initiative to do so is
provided to employees. In simple, to ensure success,
plans should be well formulated before they are
implemented.

all the employees of the organisation are
departmentalized according to their expertise with a
clear superior figure to report and to seek advice
from. They do not possess much flexibility to come
up with new ideas and innovation. Allowing all
personnel to show their initiative in some way is a
source of strength for the organization. Even though it
may well involve a sacrifice of personal vanity on the
part of many managers. BIG BAZAAR managers
keep on motivate employees for better efficiency.

12. ESPRIT DE CORPS 


According to the principle, manager should infuse the
spirit of teamwork, the spirit of loyalty, faithfulness
on the part of the members of the group which can be
achieved by strong motivating recognition and
importance of the members for their valuable
contribution, effective coordination informal mutual
social relationship between members of the group and
positive and constructive approach of the
management towards workers wearer.

According to the principle, method of their payment

provide such as good working conditions, canteen,
recreation facilities etc.

14. SCALAR CHAIN


According to this principal, scalar chain refers to the
line of authority and communication which moves in
a straight line from the superior most authority to the
lowest subordinate. Under this chain of authority,
each communication moves from top to lower level
and from lower to top level.

followed by the assistant store manager then various
departmental heads and so on with trainee crew in the
end.
