Debating and Literary Committee (Academic Session: 2021-2022)

<Introduction of the Committee>

Debating and Literary Committee was established at IITM as an initiative to work towards
developing and enhancing the speaking and communication skills of the students and to provide
opportunities to practice and polish their communication & negotiation skills. The committee
focuses on creating a learning environment in which students develop proficiency in all the
different forms of communication.

Committee Members

1. Objectives

1) To sharpen their literary and debating skills.

2) To help the students in understanding and communicating various forms of
arguments effectively in different contexts
3) To develop the ability of students for analyzing current affairs, selecting and
evaluating evidence and constructing arguments or refutations.
4) To help the students in realizing their untapped potential and talent.
5) To stimulate student to think over various serious issues.
6) To help prepare students to work in a global community by creating awareness
about social, political, and moral issues.
7) To increase daily awareness and help boost positive habits like reading.

2. Functional Responsibilities:
1) The society gets re-constituted every year with a fresh list of teacher members and
student members.
2) The society conducts a formal meeting in the beginning on the session to discuss
the activities to be conducted after brainstorming with students.
3) The activities then get sanctioned by the higher authorities and taken forward for
implementation.
4) The student members spread the word about the activity to ensure maximum
reach and conduct meeting with teachers whenever required.
5) The event gets maximum coverage through social media team before it starts and
is also updated in the newsletter after it is successfully done.
