Lawin at Sisiw

Invasion games or territory games are activities that show players’ ability to
move into a space to goal, to occupy the opponents’ space, and to defend their
space. These games are played by teams within a set of time. Each team invades
the opponents’ territory, score points, and prevent opposing team to score.

Skills honed in playing Invasion Games are; Tactical Skills, Eye and Body
Coordination, Critical Thinking Skills, Interception Skills, Catching Skills, Defending
Skills, Communication Skills and Agility.

One of the examples of Invasion Game is Lawin at Sisiw. Two players will act as
a hawk and a hen and the other players as chicks whom the Lawin will try to catch.

These are the strategies in playing Lawin at Sisiw in order to score or win in
the game. Avoid opponents and attackers, maintain space between himself/herself
and teammates, protect space or goal, prevent opponents from invading or scoring,
Contain space, Anticipate opponents’ moves.

Rules in Playing Lawin at Sisiw

1. This outdoor game requires 10 to 20 players. One will act as the hawk
(lawin), another one as the hen (or head of the chickens), while the
remaining players become the chicks.

2. The hen stands in front of the file of the chickens which are arranged
one behind another, holding each other’s waists while the group
searches for food.
3. It starts with the hawk’s attempt to buy a chick from the hen. After a
period of bargaining, the hawk finally gets a chick which he will take
home to help him search for rice grains for his dinner.
4. As the hawk falls asleep, the chick returns to the hen. As a result, the
angry hawk tries to find and catch the missing chick. The hen and all
the chickens will then prevent the hawk from catching the chick.
5. If he fails, the game starts again and the hawk tries to find another
chicken.
