Plates.

1) Connect the 32 channel scanner ‘Falcon Senior’ to the ‘Falcon 2000’ instrument
box with the 100 feet cable.

2) Connect the instrument box to the Computer having ‘Tank 32E’ software through
the custom serial port cable.

3) Connect 110 volts AC power supply to the instrument box and to the computer.

4) Connect the Encoder to the Scanner through the cable provided.

5) Adjust the gap between the scanner and floor to approximately to 3 mm.

6) Switch on the Computer and type on the Dos prompt ‘Tank32E’.

7) Select ‘A’ to get into the Data acquisition mode.

8) Switch on the instrument box.

9) Use the following keys to enter the file name.

F3- To select the drive.

F4- To select directory.
F1- To select File name.
Control + F - To select the frequency
Control + G- To set the Gain
Control + T - To set the Sweep time.
Control + Q- To set the threshold to light LED display.
Use F7 to save the settings.

10) Select Gain, so that the ‘pickup strength’ yellow bar graph reads at least half
height.

11) Select Frequency lower than 12Hz., for plate thickness ¼ inch and above,
and vice versa.

12) Set the ‘Sweep Time’ using the following formula :

(Sweep Time (sec). = Length of plate in inches/6.)

13) Calibrate the instrument with the Standard plate having same thickness and
metallurgical properties and artificial defects machined over it.

14) Prepare the surface for scanning.

15) Identify the plates with ID numbers.

16) Segment the plates into 300-mm width.

17) Start the scanning not exceeding the speed of 6 inches travel per second,
maintaining the overlap.

18) Mark the areas, which show indications above the threshold level on the plate
for further investigations.

19) Select about 20 indications for Ultrasonic Testing and conformation.

20) Evaluate the indications.

21) Prepare a test report indicating the level of the corrosion on each plate.

22) Clean the probe, coil and the instrument and store it in the appropriate
location.
