1. Connect the 32-channel scanner (Falcon Senior) to Falcon 2000 instrument box
with 100-ft cable.

2. Connect the Instrument box to the Computer having ‘Tank 32E’ software
through custom serial port cable.

3. Connect 110 V AC power supply to the Instrument box and to the Computer.

4. Connect the Encoder to the Scanner through the cable provided.

5. Adjust the gap between the scanner and floor as close as possible.

6. Switch on the Computer and type on the Dos prompt ‘Tank32E’

7. Select ‘A’ to get into the Data acquisition mode.

8. Switch on the Instrument box.

9. Use the following keys to enter the file name.

F3 – To select the drive

F4 – To select directory
F1 – To select File name
Control + F – To set the frequency
Control + G – To set the Gain
Control + T – To set the Sweep time
Control + Q – To set the threshold to light LED display.
Use F7 to save the settings.

10. Select Gain, so that the ‘pickup strength’ yellow bar graph reads at least half
height.

11. Select Frequency lower than 12 Hz for plate thickness ¼” and above, and
viceversa.

12. Set the ‘Sweep Time’ using formula

13. Sweep Time (sec) = Length of the plate in inches / 6

14. Calibrate the instrument after placing a sheet of FRP of same coating thickness
over the Standard plate having same thickness and metallurgical properties and
artificial defects machined over it

15. Prepare the surface for the scanning.

16. Identify the plates with ID numbers.

17. Segment the plates into 300mm width.

18. Start scanning, not exceeding the speed 6” per second and also maintaining the
overlap.

19. Mark the area(s), which show indications above the threshold level on the plate
for further investigations.

20. Evaluate the indications.

21. Prepare a test report indicating the level of corrosion on each plate.

22. Clean the probe, coil and the instrument and store it in the appropriate location.
