SUCCESS STORY

 Cluster: Kanhiwada
 Component: Health
 Sub Component: Upgradation of PHC
 Work Name: Construction of Ward, restoration of PHC building, boundary wall, approach
road construction and paver blocks installation
 CGF Allocation: 48.63 lakhs
 Convergence Allocation: 0
 Need of Activity:

Kanhiwada PHC is most important PHC of peripheral region. Most importantly for deliveries and
camps. Frequency of labour (delivery) cases varies from 2 to 8 cases a day. When camps are
organized multiple small operations has to be performed in that same room. If multiple deliveries
have to be performed, they rush to complete those deliveries and shifts them to perform next
delivery. This leads to a very disorganized situation which is not in favor of patient and if
unfortunately, that day clashes with camp a great chaos can be witnessed in PHC.

PHC’s main building is bit far from road and during monsoon it become a difficult task to reach PHC,
2 wheelers get usually struck in that particular patch. As PHC and PM room is situated on bank of
pond it is very important to protect them from stray animals and antisocial elements. After
construction of boundary wall PHC will get its own closed compound, for managing the campus
paver blocks installation is planned.

 Intervention:

After analysing the situations and discussions with PHC staffs, officials and gram sabha Construction
of dedicated Ward, restoration of existing PHC building, approach road construction from state
highway to PHC building, paver blocks installation in whole campus and boundary wall coverage for
whole campus including PHC building, PM room and residential area works are being finalised.

 Impact:

After construction of dedicated labour room now health workers are performing delivery in very
efficient manner, simultaneously they can put two mothers in that new room. Mothers can take
proper rest and then they will be shifted to ward. Minor operations are performed in that old room.
Efficiency of health workers are doubled in terms of performing deliveries.

After construction of approach road, it is very easy to reach to PHC even in monsoons and after
construction of boundary wall and installation of paver blocks fear of snakes, scorpions are reduced
and campus including residential areas are also secured from stray animals and antisocial elements
and health workers are fearlessly giving their services.

As per the present Covid scenario, PHC has been extensively used for many purposes and presently
