Depth of river varying from 1 meter to 4 meter, measuring from river bed to top water
level during high tide. While width of the river ranging between 18 meter to 21 meter.
Installation of micropiles in the river bed required skills and special tools.

*Disclaimer:
The figures shown in this section are solely for the purpose of illustration to
understand the overall process and methodology to execute micopiling works on site.

Figure 14: Step 5 - Prior to drilling, pontoon shall be secured to nearby trees
and anchor to river bed for stability.
Figure 15: Step 6 - The second pontoon mean for service pontoon to bring
casing, genset and reinforcement. Standby boat for safety purpose and to
move around the small tools, cement and other material.

4.8 Case Study 3 : Preparing Design of Working Platform or Floater
As discussed in the Chapter 1, the Serian River where the pipeline is crossing is not connected
to the sea, makes it impossible to employ heavy equipment such as barge, mobile crane, air
compressor and piling machine. Limited headroom between soffit of existing pipe rack and
top of water level also another limiting factor that should be considered in selecting tools and
equipment. Due to those reasons, tailor-made pontoon must be designed and self-construct
by the Contractor.

The allowable maximum dimension of the pontoon is 5.0m (W) x 6.0m (L) x 2.5m (H), this is
to allow the pontoon to cross underneath the existing pipe bridge, to complete the micropiling
installation on the opposite side of the bridge once one side have been completed. The design
calculation of the pontoon is tabulated as follow, and the proposed drawing is also attached.
