30 bulLETs — Prof. Ed.

Part 1
When teacher bursts into activities without considering students’ readiness and without
clear directions, it is called THRUST.

When teacher goes from one topic to another topic without going back to the previous topics, lacking
clear direction and sequence, it is called TRUNCATION. It is a type of Dangle.

When teacher leaves a topic to introduce a new topic, but eventually gets back to the previous one, it
is called FLIP-FLOP. It is a type of Dangle.

Thomas Nagel authored the acronym PPPF in using and evaluating materials:
Prepare yourself // Prepare your students // Present the materials // Follow up (objectives)

Negative and ineffective teaching strategies are called RED FLAG.

Positive and effective teaching strategies are called GREEN FLAG.

There are 5 S FORMULAS for conducive learning environment:

Sort (keeping the essential materials) // Set (all items are organized and each has a designated
place) // Shine (keeping room clean and orderly) // Standardize (creating standards for the T-L
process) // Sustain (sustain new practices and maintain discipline)

One activity to foster creativity of the learners is BRAINSTORMING.

MODELLING is the framework in giving templates and explaining steps to the students for developing a
research paper.

In questioning, when teacher gives clues when student’s answer is “I don’t know,” he uses
PROMPTING.

When teacher gives follow-up questions when student’s answer is only “Yes” or “No,” he uses
PROBING.

A LEADER leads the discussion to achieve desired aims in a problem-based learning group.

A teacher should be initially attentive to LISTENING if he wants to use collaborative learning approach.

An inductive TL method means: individual ideas general ideas

VALUES is the enabling factor that can make the learner fully contribute to a peaceful and just society.

The “puwede na” mentality is associated to RESIGNATION TO MEDIOCRITY (moderate quality).

To instill patriotic ideals to the lives of the students, the teacher should let them EXPLORE THE LIVES
OF NATIONAL HEROES.
When using technology in teaching, TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION is the most desirable.

The purpose of support instructional materials is TO ENHANCE LEARNING.

CONTRIVED EXPERIENCE is close to direct experience, and thus should be used if direct experience is
not possible.

A BAR GRAPH shows the trend of things.

A LINE GRAPH shows the progress of things.

The highest kind of cognitive skills is TO DEVELOP METACOGNITIVE SKILLS.

The present-day netizen students are called the DIGITAL GENERATION people.

In Erikson’s theory of development, TRUST needs to be developed from the child (1-year old).

When preschool children focuses on an aspect of an object while ignoring other objects, they
experience CENTRATION.

However, when children perceive different features of objects, they experience DECENTRATION.

JEAN PIAGET’S THEORY OF COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT:

 Sensorimotor stage (birth – 2 years) = infants and toddlers acquire knowledge through sensory
experiences and manipulating objects. A child's entire experience at the earliest period of this
stage occurs through basic reflexes, senses, and motor responses.
 Preoperational stage (2 – 7 years) = Children become much more skilled at pretend play during
this stage of development, yet continue to think very concretely about the world around
them.
 Concrete operational stage (7 – 11 years) = Children begin using inductive logic, or reasoning
from specific information to a general principle. While children are still very concrete and
literal in their thinking at this point in development, they become much more adept at using
logic. The egocentrism of the previous stage begins to disappear as kids become better at
thinking about how other people might view a situation.
 Formal Operational stage (12 years and up) = involves an increase in logic, the ability to use
deductive reasoning, and an understanding of abstract ideas. At this point, people become
capable of seeing multiple potential solutions to problems and think more scientifically about
the world around them.

Things related to metacognition are: PREDICTING OUTCOMES, “AM I LEARNING WELL ENOUGH?”,
SELF-ASSESSMENT

INTROSPECTIVE (Plato) — contemplative use of mind; self-examination.
