My Reflection Paper:

The topic that I choose and catches my attention the most was one of the topics
in our module one which was the Globalization of Religion. A lot of interesting topics
have been discussed in our modules like Defining Globalization which was our first
topic in our module one Economic Globalization and Global Trade in our module two
and the Theories of Global Stratification as well, All of the topics really interest me in
general but what makes the topic Globalization of Religion special that I choose it
among the other topics, is because it hits me personally, Because I have a friend and he’s
a Muslim and he practice Islam.

According on the data that was presented in our module the Adherents of Christianity
are 2.2 Billion and 1.57 Million for Islam which makes them two of the largest religions
in the world and this two even share some historical traditional connection. History
itself can be a witness on how the two religions don’t really get along with each other, in
some countries like Indonesia where Muslim are the majority and Christianity is in
minority, numerous incidents of communal violence between conservative Muslims has
been experienced. Even here in our country discriminations between religions is still
present. But I personally think that we don’t have to categories ourselves by our
religion, I believe that being a Christian in a Muslim country won’t make you less of a
person and being a Muslim in a country that the Christianity is the majority won’t make
you violent. Let’s stop this categorizing and set aside what history and some toxic
religion conservative freaks tell us and live according to our own judgement. One
activity in our module caught my attention the activity wants us to do this “Draw a
caricature which shows the reason why Islam and Christianity are incompatible and
provide a short explanation about it.” I find this question as an irresponsible question
that a school must ask to their students the question is full of negativity, why not make
it” Draw a caricature which shows the reason why Islam and Christianity are compatible
and provide a short explanation about it? Though some may find this irrelevant but as
the school purpose is to teach students, why not also teach students about the false
beliefs and discrimination at the same time.

Racism is a very hot and controversial topic today, a belief that different races
possess distinct characteristics, abilities or qualities. And a lot of people want this belief
to disappear where I absolutely agree but what i like to convey is that I hope religion
discrimination can also get the attention that racism gets.
