Dar- Al-Noor Sunday School Curriculum & Schedule For Level 3

The Dar An Noor Sunday school curriculum focuses on three main areas.
A. Qur’anic studies
B. Fundamentals of Islam
C. Seerah of the Prophet Mohammed(SAW) for Level 3 through 5
Note to teachers: For LeveSl 1& 2, the seerah of prophet (SAW) is to be substituted
by Islamic manners & short stories of prophets(A)

Level 3 Curriculum:
A. Quranic Studies with Tajweed: Prescribed book, ‘Al Qaidah Nouraniya’ &
‘Beginners Arabic Reading’
1. Master reading & writing Arabic letters with regards to their position relative to
the line drawn
Note to the teachers: Teacher must show joining of the letters on a line while
teaching how to join letters.
2. Revise lessons learned in level 2 . Master reading Nouraniya lessons #4 through
#11 with tajweed
3. Practice writing words in lesson 4 through #11 through ‘imla’(writing a word on
listening).
4. Memorization and vocabulary of Al- Fatiha with proper tajweed
5. Memorization and vocabulary of Al -nas , Al-Falaq ,Al-Ikhlas, Al-masad & Al-
nasr

B. Fundamentals of Islam: Prescribed Book: ‘Weekend learning series Level 5 ’


Note to teachers: Teachers may consult weekend learning series # 4 for
‘salah’
1. Review articles of faith & pillars of Islam learned at Level 2
2. Adhan with meanings and its memorization. Steps of wudu. Demo required
3. Steps of salah, it’s requirements and it’s importance
4. Demo to show the steps of salah is strongly recommended. Male children must
be given a chance to make adhan in the masjid for salat-ul-zuhr
5. What is Aqeedah; Explain terms like Oneness of Allah/Tauheed, belief in the
unseen, Ibadah/worship ONE God only, the rights of Allah(S) on us, ikhlas, shirk
and its forms.
6. Knowing & memorizing Ayat-Al-Kursi
7. Fasting, Zakah and hajj explained briefly

C. Seerah of the prophet Mohammed(SAW): Prescribed Book ‘Weekend


Learning Series Level 4’, Seerah of the Prophet by Mohammed Haykle,
Seerah of the Prophet by Martin Lings. Following topics are to be covered.
1. The date, year and place of birth.
2. The early childhood life
3. The travels of Mohammed (SAW) to Syria & his(saw) character.
4. The revelation of Qur’an
5. The Makkah period, the 1st and the 2nd migrations
6. The Madinah period The battle of Badr, The battle of Uhud, The battle of the
trench
7. The treaty of Hudaibiyah

Level 3 Schedule :

A. Qur’anic Studies: Prescribed book, ‘Al Qaidah Nouraniya’

 Revision of reciting words in LESSON 4,5 & 6 NOURANIYA
 Revise joining of letters. Practice writing the form of a letter in the
beginning ,middle and at the end.
 Practice writing words in lesson 4 through 6 through ‘imla’(writing a word on
listening).
MID TERM EXAM 1st Semester Oct 24th

 Begin Alif sagheera, Al-leen. Lesson 7,8 & 9 .


 Cover Lesson 3/ Al -madd and practice lesson 9 again before starting Al-
sukun/ lesson 10 & lesson 11
 Master reading lesson 11
FINAL EXAM 1st Semester December 19th
Winter Break

2nd Semester Topics: Prescribed Book, Green book, ‘Juz Amma’

 Memorization and vocabulary of Al- Fatiha with proper tajweed


 Memorization and vocabulary of Al -nas & Al-Falaq
 MID TERM EXAM 2nd Semester March 20th

 Memorization and vocabulary of Al-Ikhlas, Al-masad & Al-nasr

B. Fundamentals of Islam: Prescribed book, ‘Weekend learning series


Level 5 ’ & weekend learning series # 4 for the details on ‘salah’(for
teachers).
1st Semester Topics:
Salah, the second pillar of Islam:
Note to teachers: Review articles of faith & pillars of Islam taught at level 2 before
explaining ‘Salah’. Demo to show the steps of salah is strongly recommended. Male
children must be given a chance to make adhan in the masjid for salat-ul-zuhr

 To fulfil the requirement to be muslim?

Salah in detail :
p# 122 together with p#163(weekend series Level 4)
 What are the requirements for performing salah. Clean place, clean clothes, in
wudu, quiet environment, no talking, no moving, no watching the people.
 What nullifies the salah, like without taharah & wudu, dirty clothes etc .
 Niyyah/intention to make salah, steps of salah and dua’ after the salah
 Difference between sunnah and Fard. The importance of making niyyah/Intention
 What do we recite after the salah?(Subhan Allah, AlhamdulilAllah, Allahu
Akbar).
 Memorize duas after the salah is finished; Rabbana aatina fi-dunya hasanah; wa
fi-al aakhirati hasana waqina azaban -naar

MID TERM EXAM 1st Semester October 24th


Review main points of Aqeedah like oneness of Allah(tawheed), belief in the unseen,
Ibadah/worship, the rights of Allah(S) on us, ikhlas, shirk and its forms.
 Memorize Ayat-al kursi with tajweed & meanings.

Fasting /The third pillar of Islam p# 114
 Fasting in Ramadan , why the month of Ramadan is so special?
 Brief explanation of revelation of Qur’an in Ramadan
 Reasons for fasting (based on Qur’an and sunnah).
 How do you feel when hungry? How do you feel when you get food after staying
hungry for long?
 What are the things you refrain from during fasting? What nullifies the fasting?
 Was fasting prescribed to other people like jews and Christians?
 What is Eid-al -Fitr? In which month is Eid -al-Fitr

Zakah /charity/ The fourth pillar of Islam p# 118

 What does zakah mean? Why do we have to give charity?


 How much (%) of our total income is the obligatory charity/zakah?
 Does giving charity make us poor?
 Is giving charity a fard/a must do?

Hajj/ The pilgrimage to Makkah/The fifth pillar of Islam


 Note to teachers: Revise intro to Hajj taught in 2nd grade
 What is bait-u- Allah/ The ka’bah
 The first house of Allah. Who built Ka’bah? Who was Ibrahim(AS) and
Ishmael(AS)? Who was Hajar(AS)?
 What does ’twaf’ mean? Why do we visit Ka’bah and perform Twaf? What is
Sai’(a round trip between Safa & Marwa). Why sai’ is important part of Hajj?
 What Eid follows Hajj?
 What is so special about this Eid? What does slaughtering of an animal mean at
this Eid?

month, mount Hira and the age of Mohammed(saw)
