LESSON TITLE: Revelation of the Holy Qur’ān
SUBTITLE (IF ANY): Description of Al- Qur’ān and Revelation
PERIOD: Double
DURATION: 80 Minutes
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the lesson, thestudents will be able to:
i. describe the meaning of revelation of Al-Qur’ān
ii. determine the modes of revelation of Al-Qur’ān
iii. examine the benefits of revealing Al-Qur’ān in piece meal

BUILDING BACKGROUND/CONNECTION TO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE:
The students are asked to mention the name of Islamic/Muslims Holy Book and the
methods through which Allah SWT give His messages to human beings and the world in
general.
CONTENT:
Meaning of Revelation
 Revelation is Allah’s messages delieved by His chosen channels to mankind
 It is Allah's disclosure of Divine Knowledge or Divine Instructions to human beings.
 It is simply reffered to in Arabic as Al-Wahy
Modes of Revelation
Qur’ān Chapter 42 verse 51 mentions the modes in this way:
“It is fitting for a man that Allah should speak to him except by inspiration or
From behind a veil or by sending of a messenger to reveal with Allah’s will
for He is Most High, Most Wise”
Therefore, the modes of revelation according to the above verse are three. These are:
1. Wahyun (Inspiration)
2. Min Warai Hijāb (Behind the veil)
3. Irsal al-Malak (Sending an Angel)
Year of its Commencement
The year of the commencement of the revelation of Al-Quran to Prophet Muhammad
(SAW) in the cave of Ḥira was in 610 AD in the month of Ramadan when he was 40
years of age.
The Benefits of Revealing the Qur’ān in Piecemeal
Revelation Al-Qur’ān in piecemeal simply means giving the text of the Al-Qur’ān to the Prophet
little by little, verse by verse or chapter by chapter. It is NOT by revealing it to him at a once as a
whole. The benefits of this process include:
 To allow for easy reception of the Qur’ān by the Prophet (SAW)
 To enable for convenient memorization of the revealed portions of the Qur’ān
 To make it easy for the Prophet (SAW) to teach the portions recieved to his companions.
 To give room for proper recording/writing of the revealed portions
 To allow easy explanation of the meaning of the revealed portions to to the companions,
 To give room for applications of its teachings and rules to daily activities.
LEARNING STRATEGIES & ACTIVITIES:
The teacher presents the lesson to the students through the following learning activities as he
encourages critical thinking, collaboration and communication as well as leadership skill in
them:
Activity 1: He arouses the readiness of the students by asking them to state the Holy
Book of Islam/Muslims and mention its meaning
Activity 2: He displays the key vocabulary words through the flashcards and allows
the students provides the correct meanings of the words
Activity 3: The students as a class, examine the purpose of the Prophet’s visit to cave
Hira and his encounter with Angel Jubril (SAW) which signified the
beginning of his Prophethood and Mission
Activity 4: They in small groups determine and explain the modes of revelation of the
Qur’ān with the aid of Q42:51 as provided by the teacher.
Activity 5: They in group examine the basic methods of preserving Al-Qur’ān i.e.
Memorization and Recording
ASSESSMENT (EVALUATION):
The teacher evaluates/assesses the lesson through questioning such as:
i. What do you understand by Revelation?
ii. State the Quranic verse that explains the modes of Al-Qur’ān
iii. Mention the three (3) modes of revelation
iv. Give an example of “Sending an Angel” mode of revealing to the Prophet
v. How old was the Prophet when he received the first Revelation?
vi. In what year did the commncement of Revelation start?
vii. Identify the major teachings of the first Revelation
WRAP UP (CONCLUSION)
The teacher wraps up by summarizing that lesson and correcting the mistakes observed
while the students are being evaluated
ASSIGNMENT:
The students are to write the numbers of the Chapters in the Glorious Qur’ān and to
mention some of the instructions and teachings contained in the Qur’ān
