MODULE 2: UNIT 2 - MEANING, CONCEPTS AND APPROACHES

Objectives:
a. Define human development in your own words.
 Human Development is defined as the richness of human life. It enlarges people
freedom of development and opportunities of their well-being. It also occurs ad
develops in physical changes that influences bodily change from childhood to
adulthood. Human Development Human development is a complex lifelong
process that begins when a person is in the womb of their mother and it extends
to their death. Every person moves through similar stages of life as they age and
move from infancy, childhood, and adulthood. However, every person within this
world has their own personal development with individuality, thought process, and
life as they are exposed to different environmental experiences

b. Distinguish between tradition and life-span approach of development.

 Traditional Approach Customs, beliefs, or methods are ones that have existed for
a long time without changing. Dealing with something with those long existing
methods is called a traditional approach while development is a continuous
process influenced jointly by biology and environment. Development unfolds as a
process that includes both gains and losses across the lifespan that results in a
multidimensional, multidimensional and multifunctional perspective. Traditional
Approach is the development that emphasizes extensive change from birth to
adolescence while Life Span Approach emphasizes the development change
during adulthood. The stage theories all attempt to describe the universals—not
the individual variation—in development.

1. Describe an infant 's or a child's Proximodistal and cephalocaudal growth.

 The proximodistal pattern of development in a child is where growth starts at the
center of the body and moves towards the extremities. An example of such a
pattern is the early development of muscular control of the trunk and arms relative
to the hands and fingers.
 The cephalocaudal pattern is where the greatest development in child takes place
at the top of the body, i.e. the head, and physical development moves gradually
downwards: e.g. neck, shoulders, trunk, etc.

2. How would understanding of human development help you as a future educator.

 Because as a future educator you will be the 2nd parent of the children that will
play an important role in the growth and development of our students.
Understanding Human Development will be vital since you we will guide their
acquisition of values and knowledge throughout their life experiences and
learnings.
