M-Am: I can't believe l'm here on time! My car wouldn't start this morning and I had to take the train,
which usually takes about twenty minutes longer.
W-Am: It's a good thing you made it in. The meeting is in half an hour. I'm wondering if we should
use the conference room instead of this office.
M-Am: You're right. Let's take the coffee and doughnuts and all the handouts over there.
[4-6]
M-Br: Susan, could you reschedule my nine o'clock client tomorrow? I need to take my car to the
repair shop.
W-Br: Sure, Mr. Miller. When is the earliest you could see him?
M-Br: The mechanic told me that my car should be ready by ten. So, let's say eleven. I'll be in the office
by then.
[7-9]
W-Am: I’m worried about the production rate on assembly line number three. The machine that seals
the mobile phone boxes isn't running as fast as it should, and it's slowing down the whole process.
M-Cn: Oh, we've had trouble with that machine in the past. Instead of having it repaired again, I think
we'd better just replace it.
M-Au: I agree. But we should try to get a new one put in as soon as possible, or we might have to shut
down that assembly line.
W-Am: OK, I'll call the company that supplies that equipment
[10-12]
M-Am: Hey, Vicki. Have you had any problems using your computer this morning? I can't log on to
mine.
W-Am: Our passwords expired last night. You have to go to the technical services office to have a new
one set up.
M-Am: OK... that's down on the first floor by the machine room, right?
W-Am: It's on the first floor, but you need to turn left at the reception desk and go all the way down that
hallway. It's right next to the security office.
[13-15]
W-Br: Have you seen the long power cord? I need it to set up my laptop for the presentation for the
vice president
M-Cn: I haven't seen that long cable for a while. All we've got are two very short cords. Do you think
we should postpone the meeting?
W-Br: No, we can't do that. Why don't we print the presentation, and the vice president can look at
everything on paper.
[16-18]
W-Am: Nathan, do you have time this afternoon around two or three o'clock? l'd like to talk to you
about my project proposal-my idea for a new travel app.
M-Au: Yes, about the app – I read your report last week, and I was impressed with your idea.
Unfortunately, this week is really busy. I have client meetings all day today, and every afternoon the rest
of the week. What about Friday at 10 o'clock?
[19-21]
W-Am: Robert, have you received your new access card? I got mine on Friday.
M-Am Friday? I still don't have mine. I have to ask a security guard to open the door for me every
day.
W-Am: Maybe you should speak to someone in the security office about issuing you a card.
[22-24]
M-Cn: Hi. I just noticed they started some construction work in the lobby. Do you know what that's all
about?
W-Am: I was going to ask about that too. Um, our payment processing team was just moved here to
headquarters. Maybe it's related to that.
W-Br: No, it's just regular renovation work-to improve the lobby's overall appearance.
W-Br: I'll say. I heard the crews will even put up antique photos showing the company's foundation
ceremony-more than a century ago.
W-Am: It's amazing we've been in business for so long. We have quite a heritage.
[25-27]
W-Br: Hi, Jim. I hear you're going to the jazz concert on Friday. Can I ask you a favor?
W-Br: A few of us from the graphics department are also attending the concert, but we have a meeting
until six o'clock on Friday. Since there are no assigned seats, we were wondering if you could save a
few places for us.
M-Cn: That shouldn't be a problem. I don't have any meetings on Friday afternoon, so I plan to get there
when the doors open. How many should I reserve?
W-Br: Hmm... I'm not sure yet if Eduardo is joining us. Why don't I send him an e-mail right now, and I'll
let you know how many seats to save
[28-30]
M-Cn: Yes, I'm afraid that's true. In fact, I've just been talking with one of them
M-Cn: She wasn't at all happy. Our driver picked her up on time, but there was heavy traffic on the
way to the airport, and she nearly missed her flight.
W-Br: Mmm. We should probably take a look at roadwork scheduled in the area. It might be affecting
traffic more than we realized.
M-Cn: Right, And we have some other issues to consider as well. Look at the rest of these comments-
we'll need to decide what to do.

M-Cn: Divya, I have a question about the client appreciation banquet. Do you know how
many people we can invite this year?
W-Br: I'm still waiting to get a confirmation from the South York Hotel that we can use
their ballroom. If iť's available, we can host as many esident clients as we like.
M-Cn: Oh, OK. Please let me know as soon miss as possible. l'd like to send out the
invitations well in advance.
[4-6]
M-Br: I don't know, but it's in the Features section. I was thinking you should enter that great
picture you took of the buildings in New York last summer.
W-Am: You know, that's a good idea. Come to think of it, l also have some pretty good
photos from my trip to London last month.
[7-9]
M-Br: Ms. Lewis, after looking at your résumé and interviewing you, we've decided to offer you
a job as a sales representative here at Harper Industries.
W-Br: Thank you, Mr. Andrews. l'd like to accept the offer. When I first saw the advertisement for
this position, I felt this would be a perfect opportunity to utilize my background in sales.
M-Br: Great. Now you'll need to see Ms. Avery in the human resources department to fill
out some paperwork. How soon do you think you can start?
[10-12]
W-Br: Hello, may I speak fo Min-Jae Park? It's about the renovations to Comet Bank. He's the
architect, right?
W-Br: This is Sheryl Reed, the project manager for the Comet Bank renovations. I'm missing the
drawings with the measurements for the main entrance, and I'm ordering the doors today.
W-Am: OK, I'll put you through to Mr. Park. Please hold.
W-Br: Thanks.
W-Br: Hello, Mr. Park. Could you possibly get me another blueprint? I can't find the drawings
for the front entrance.
M-Cn: Certainly, Ms. Reed. It'll take some time to print the plan, though. If you come by my
office around three o'clock, I'll have it ready for you by then.
[13-15]
W-Br: Hello, I'd like to inquire if your resort has any positions for summer workers.
M-Br: Yes, we're looking for lifeguards for the swimming pool, servers for the restaurant, and
gardening personnel for the grounds.
W-Br: I have experience as a lifeguard; my can I come down this afternoon to fill out an
application?
M-Br: Sure, we'll schedule an interview for you today too; make sure you bring copies of your
lifeguard certificate.
[16-18]
M-Cn: So, Sharon, l heard you got a job at a market research firm. How do you like it?
W-Br: Yes, it's called Central Fieldwork Associates. I'm developing surveys to help client
companies learn about consumer preferences in various regional markets. Then I get to work on
a team to develop the advertisements.
W-Br: .... After you do that, I can look it over and give you feedback
[19-21]
W-Am: Did you hear that Joe Cooper is going to be interviewed for the evening news?
M-Am Yes. It's so exciting to have an engineer from our company on TV! Do you know when it
is?
W-Am I heard they're interviewing him on Tuesday, but it won't be broadcast until Thursday.
M-Am Thanks. I'll have to remember to watch it when I get home that night.
[22-24]
M-Cn: Hi, I'm with Spellman Technologies, and I'm calling to thank you and your company
for the great job you did catering for our business luncheon last week.
W-Br: Oh, don't thank me. Your event was planned by my colleague, Nadia. I'm sure she'll
be happy to hear that you were pleased.
W-Br: Actually, she's out today. But I can put you through to her voice mail so that you can
leave her a message.
[25-27]
M-Cn: Guess what? The IT team just completed the upgrades to our company Web site. The
site even has a new chat forum for employees.
M-Cn: It looks great. From the forum I noticed ... there's a lot of interest in our upcoming
workshops. Won't we need more space? We could rent a reception room, or...
W-Br: We'll be OK. I'll stream the workshop live in additional meeting rooms. That way,
everyone can attend.
W-Br: Now, uh... We'll have to make a change to the schedule. The presenter of the last
workshop said he needs more time. He’ll go to 3:30.
[28 30]
M-Cn: Jane, because the sales team you led had such good results in June, I want to ask your
advice about an important decision I need to make.
M-Cn: Next year, to launch our new line of software, we're starting another sales team. We
want one of the salespeople from your team to lead it. Can you recommend anyone?
W-Am: Certainly. If you look at my team member's results, you might think Marius is the best
choice. But the person with the lowest sales did a great job helping the others on the team.
She's the one to lead your new team.

M-Au: Hi, I'm calling to book a train ticket from London to Edinburgh, please. I'd like to
leave around ten o'clock on Tuesday morning.
W-Br: Certainly, sir. I can reserve a seat for you on the train departing for Edinburgh at ten-
thirty. The cheapest fare is eighty-five pounds.
M-Au: OK, l'd like to buy that ticket, please. l'd also like to find out whether there's room
on the train for passengers to take bicycles.
W-Br: Yes, there is, but it'll cost three pounds more to reserve a space for your bike.
[4-6]
M-Br: Hi, what time does your store close tonight? I need to get a birthday gift for my wife.
W-Br: We're open until seven P.M., and if you can't get to us today, we'll be open at eight
o'clock tomorrow morning.
M-Br: I should be able to get there by seven-but in case I don't, could you set aside an item
for me? I can give you the item number.
W-Br: No, I'm very sorry. We can't accept reserve requests over the phone because a cash
deposit is required.
[7-9]
M-Au: Hello, I'm calling to place an order for a set of headphones I saw in your catalog: the
Music Master Deluxe headphones.
W-Br: All right, I can help you with that. Can you give me the product code for those? There
are several different models in that product line.
M-Au: I have the catalog right here-if you can give me a moment, I'll check it and see.
W-Br: Thanks, but I’m on a tight budget, so I’ll just use the one that’s included.
[10-12]
W-Br: Excuse me, do you work here? I'm interested in one of the cameras on display behind
the counter-it's on your right.
M-Au: Just so you know, the battery that's included doesn't last very long-you might want to
buy an extra one if you're planning to use the camera a lot. A rechargeable battery only costs
about fifteen dollars.
W-Br: Thanks, but I’m on a tight budget, so I’ll just use the one that’s included.
[13-15]
M-Cn: This traffic is unusually heavy tonight. Let's call Juliana and tell her we'll be a little late
getting to the theater.
W-Br: Oh, we won't be able to reach her. She told me she's having dinner with some of her
coworkers before she meets us at the theater. She always turns her mobile phone off when she
goes out to eat.
M-Cn: That makes sense. I guess we'll just see her at the theater. I'm glad I gave her a ticket
yesterday. I’d feel terrible if she missed the beginning of the performance because we arrived a
little late.
[16-18]
M-Au: Italy was fun. I caught up with relatives at my cousin's wedding. I was mostly helping
out with the ceremony, so I didn't have time to visit any museums.
M-Au: But I can always visit again. So what happened while I was gone?
W-Br: Actually, our client asked us to present our sales pitch a week earlier than scheduled.
So now we have to work a little faster to prepare for that meeting. I e-mailed you some notes
about it.
[19-21]
M-Cn: Hi, Amal. I heard you attended an orchestra concert with Miguel over the weekend. How
was it? I heard it's long... about two hours, right? Is it worth checking out?
M-Cn: Really? Hmm... l've been busy for the last month working on the product design
presentation, so I haven't had a lot of time. I'd like to see it with a friend.
W-Am: Actually, Angie wanted to see it with us, but she felt a little sick that day. Maybe you
should ask her to go with you? She should be at her desk now.

M-Cn: Hello, I'd like to purchase a ticket for the 3 o'clock train to Chicago.
W-Am: Unfortunately, sir, that train's already full. Here's a copy of the daily train schedule -
why don't you look it over and choose a later departure. At this time of day, trains to
Chicago leave frequently.
M-Cn: Hmmm... if I wait for the 3:40 train, I'll have time to buy some souvenirs before leaving.
Do you know if there's a gift shop in the station?
W-Am: Yes, there's one iust down the stairs and to the left.
[25-27]
M-Cn: Excuse me? I'm trying to change my diet and I want to eat something different for
breakfast-you know, something healthier, like, maybe yogurt? Is there a yogurt that's low in
calories but also has a lot of protein?
W-Br: We have a lot of options you might like. Here's one of our most popular brands of
blueberry yogurt. See, there's a lot of protein...
M-Cn: Mmm-nice! But my doctor told me I shouldn't eat a lot of sweet foods-and it would
put me over the daily amount he recommended. That's more than 30 grams!
W-Br: In that case, I'd suggest buying a plain version of this yogurt and adding your own
fresh fruit.
[28-30]
W-Am: Hi, Mr. Olson? I'm Eun-hee Sohn from Circle Optical Supplies. I'm calling about the
order you placed yesterday
M-Cn: Oh, yes-l ordered supplies for my eyeglass store. Is there an issue?
W-Am: Well, we only have 25 of the eyeglass cases you ordered. Unfortunately, we won't
have any more in stock for another two weeks.
M-Cn: Oh, no-we have a promotional event starting next Friday, and we usually provide a case
with each pair of eyeglasses our customers purchase Hmmm .... I guess I'll take the 25 cases
you have, but l'll have to order the rest from another company.
W-Am: OK-I'Il update your order. And as an apology, my manager told me to waive your
delivery charge. So, we'll cover the twenty dollar shipping fee.

put in your request at least a day before you leave.

M-Au: I got a bill from the electric company in the mail today. It's so expensive!
W-Am: Mine is too. I guess that's because I've been using the air conditioner so much in this
hot weather.
M-Au: So have I, but I still don't think I should have been billed this much. Maybe I should call
the electric company and find out if the rates have gone up.
W-Am: That's a good idea. They're very responsive by phone. Let me know what they tell you.
[4 6]
W-Am: Do you want to try lunch at the new restaurant near the ice cream shop?
M-Br: Oh, I went there last week and I wasn't very impressed. There were too many people and
there wasn't enough space between the tables.
M-Br: Well, let's order sandwiches and take them to the park since it's a beautiful day to sit
outside.
[7-9]
M-Cn: Good afternoon, Jacobson Bank. This is Leo. How can I help you?
W-Br: Hi. Yes, there's a mistake on my credit card bill this month. I spent $5, but I was
charged $50.
M-Cn: I'm sorry, this is the business loan department. For your inquiry you will need to
speak to someone from credit card transactions. Please hold while l transfer your call.
W-Br: No problem.
M-Au: Thank you for calling card services. My name is Hank. How may I help you?
M-Au: Sure, I can help with that. First, I need the last four digits of your credit card please.
[10-12]
M-Au: I was here for last night's performance, and I think I left my jacket on the back of
my seat. I was sitting in the last row of the theater. Do you know if anyone's turned it in?
W-Br: l'll have to check. Can you describe what the jacket looked like?
M-Au: It's dark blue and has a pocket on the left side.
W-Br: Let me go and ask the manager who was on duty last night. He might have seen it. I'll
be back in a few minutes
[13-15]
M-Au: Hi, Ms. Long. This is Jacob from the landscaping company. I'm afraid we won't be able to
start working on your garden tomorrow. The weather report's showing that there'll be heavy
rain.
W-Am: Well, you know I'm going to be out of town for two weeks starting this Thursday. I
wanted to give you a key to the gate, so you'd be able to keep working while I'm gone.
M-Au: OK. Then what if I come by tomorrow anyway, just to pick up the key?
W-Am: If you wouldn't mind. I'll be at home until ten- to thirty in the morning.
[16-18]
M-Cn: Excuse me-l'm interested in becoming a member of this fitness center, but I have a
question: What does the membership fee include?
W-Am: Well, we have a pool, a running track, and many different kinds of exercise equipment. If
you have time now, I can show you around the facility.
M-Cn: Thanks, but I'm on my lunch break, and I have to get back to the office-but could I have a
tour tomorrow morning, before work?
W-Am: Of course-but if you'd like to talk to some curent members about the services we offer,
l'd recommend that you come back after work today, since evenings are the busiest time
around here.
[19-21]
M-Au: Thanks for calling Hokkaido Electronics. What can I help you with today?
W-Br: Hi, I'm having trouble with my printer. The problem is, um, every time try to print a
document on both sides of the paper, the paper gets stuck in the machine.
M-Au: I'm sorry to hear that. Unfortunately we can't offer technical support over the phone.
Do you have the user manual? Otherwise you'll need to bring your printer to a store so a
licensed technician can look at it.
W-Br: The manual wasn't helpful, so I guess I’ll bring it back to the store this afternoon.
Thanks anyways.
[22-24]
W-Am: Thank you for calling the Kim Investment Group. This is Clara Jones. How may I help
you?
M-Am: Hello, my name is Fred Kane, and I'm calling from the Clearsea Electronics Company. I’d
like to transfer ten thousand dollars from our short-term savings account to our long-
term account
W-Am: No problem, sir. What's the account number that you're transferring from?
M-Am: The account number is 67843. Oh, before I forget-we don't want this transaction to
happen right away. We'd like to schedule it for March 31.
[25-27]
W-Am: Hi, l'd like to have this dress cleaned. I'm going to a conference at the end of this
week, and I'd like to take it with me. Oh, and... can you tell me how much it'll cost?
W-Am: Oh, that much? Your sign out front says dresses can be cleaned from 7 dollars and up.
M-Cn: Well yes, but it's the material the dress is made of. We have to use special cleaning
products to make sure we don't damage the fabric.
W-Am OK
M-Cn: I can rush the service and have it to you by Wednesday evening. Does that work?
[28 – 30]
M-Cn: Excuse me, I think there’s a mistake on our bill. It says this dish cost 12 dollars, but the
sign outside the restaurant says it's only 9 dollars today.
W-Am: I'm sorry about that. We didn't update our computer billing system to show the
discount. When you pay, though, the cashier will give you the promotional price.
M-Cn: OK. I see. Also, since the service was great, I'd like to leave some extra money for the
server, but I don't have any cash. Can I tip if I use a credit card?
W-Am: Certainly. Just tell that to the cashier, and he'll add it to the bill.

session starts?
Am: It doesn't start until nine-thirty, so we still have time to go to the coffee shop and get
some breakfast with the rest of the group.
W-Br: That sounds like a good idea. Let me go up to my room and get my program, and I'll

M-Am: Clara, is that really you? I didn't expect to see you here.
W-Br: Hi, Mark! I hadn't planned to come, but I couldn't miss our ten-year reunion. It's really

M-Am: It is. I can't believe it's been ten years since we've seen each other. Remember the

W-Br: Yes, of course. I'm supposed to meet with Helen Wade in meeting room 2B. Is that right?
M-Cn: Actually, it looks like there was a last- minute change. You'll be meeting in room 12A
instead. It's down that hallway and to your left.

about making it larger think our so people can see it better?
W-Br: That's a good idea. Also, I was thinking of adding Mr. Navarro's picture next to the

W-Br: OK. I'll make those changes. Thanks for all your help.

second floor, just past the gift shop. You'll need a ticket for it.
M-Cn: Oh, I bought one online last week. It says I should enter between two and three o'clock.
W-Br: Yes, you can only enter the exhibit at the time shown on your ticket. It's one forty-five
right now, so you'll just have to wait fifteen more minutes.
[47 - 49]
W-Am: Hello, Oscar-it's Tanya from the Cardona Museum. Unfortunately our budget's been
cut, so we'll have to delay some of the renovations we've asked you to do.
M-Au: Ah-that's too bad. Do you know which parts of the project you'd like to put off?
W-Am: Well, I know we talked about adding library wing on the west side of the building-
but that's very expensive. So, if we don't make that addition, that's all we may need to
cut.
M-Au: You know, that's not a bad idea. Let's see how much you'd save if I take the library out of
the renovation proposal. I'll e-mail you a revised estimate this afternoon.
[50 - 52]
M-Au: I'm sorry, Jennifer, I don't see your name on the list for today. Are you sure your
appointment is today, August fourth?
W-Am: Let me double-check my calendar... oh, you're right. My appointment is actually next
Wednesday, not today.
M-Au: That's all right. Let me see if one of the other hair stylists is available to fit you in
today.
[53 - 55]
W-Am: Mark, I was surprised to hear that you're planning to move. Don't you like living in
the city?
M-Br: Actually, I do. The problem is that it's very expensive to rent an apartment here. If I
live outside the city, it'll be more affordable.
W-Am: Well, there are always a lot of advertisements for apartments in the newspaper.
You should take a look at them.
M-Br: That's a good idea. My rental contract ends next month, so I need to find a new place
to live soon.
[56 - 58]
W-Am: Welcome back, Tony. How was the conference in London? Did you get a good
turnout?
M-Au: Yes, I did! My talk was rather technical, so I was worried about low attendance. But in fact,
the room was full.
W-Am: Terrific. Actually, I'm going to London myself in the summer. I'm planning to tour the city
with my family. So I was wondering-how was the hotel accommodation we booked for you
there?
M-Au: I could've stayed there forever. We should book it for next year's conference too! Oh,
which reminds me - I have to write up a report on the other speakers' presentations. I've
got to start on that right now. Let's talk more during the lunch break.
[59 - 61]
W-Am: Hi Ken, hi Julio! How did the art gallery opening go last weekend? Was the client
happy with the marketing materials?
M-Cn: Alfredo? He was very pleased. He said he thought the brochures we designed were one
of the main reasons for such a great turnout.
M-Au: And it's worth checking out the gallery when you have some time. I'm sure Alfredo
would be happy to give you a tour.
M-Cn: Yes, the place is so bright and modern, with a fantastic collection of local works of art.
W-Am: You know, l'm taking a vacation in that area in February. I'll make a point of visiting
him
[62 - 64]
W-Am: Hello. Can I still buy a ticket for the 9:05 train to Amsterdam? It's not too late, is it?
M-Cn: I'm sorry. The train leaves in one minute. However, there are trains at 10:50 A.M and
12:30 P.M. There are seats available on both.
W-Am: l'll take the first one. Also, I need to get some work done on my laptop during the trip.
Will there be places to charge my laptop?
M-Cn: Yes, all our seats come with individual electric sockets, so you don't have to worry
about that. Your total is eighty-five euros. Would you like to pay with cash or a credit card?
[65 - 67]
W-Am: Hi, Hank. I'm back from our Product Development Lab. They're wondering how the
taste-test surveys for our new flavors of juice drinks are coming along.
M-Cn: Oh, our market research firm sent us 30 completed surveys from another supermarket
testing site, just this morning.
W-Am: Great. Why don't you get in touch with our advertising agency? If the survey results
are positive, they can be used in our new ads.
M-Cn: Sure-so far the feedback seems good. These 30 surveys came from the Medford Park
supermarket. So we're just waiting on one more set of results.
[68 - 70]
M-Au: Hello, I'd like to register for this year's garden show. I think it'll be a good way to
market my landscaping business.
W-Br: I'm sure it will be! We have four types of vendor booths. I suggest one of the "Elite"
locations.
M-Au: Hmm, those are the most expensive, right? But I will take one of the spots directly
across from the food court. I'm guessing there'll be a lot of foot traffic there. Do I need to pay
now?
W-Br: Just a deposit. And I'll give you an information packet in case you have other questions.

Hi Ms. Balani, this is Mark from Duffie's Bakery. I'm calling about the cake order you placed
for your company's holiday party. I have the order here, but I seem to have misplaced the
delivery instructions. Could you please let me know what time the cake should be delivered,
and who the driver should speak to when he gets to the banquet hall? Our bakery is open
until five P.M. this evening, so please give me a call anytime before then.
[74 -76]
Welcome to this tour of the National Museum of Art. My name is Gerald, and I'll be your
tour guide through our world-famous East Asian Art gallery The museum just completed a
renovation project of this gallery last month, so we now have room to exhibit our East Asian
ceramic collection. Let me remind you that flash photography is not allowed in the gallery.
However the gift shop sells prints and postcards of the art work in the exhibit. It also has a
fine selection of art books. I suggest you stop there before leaving today. The gift shop is
located near the main museum entrance, across from the café.
[77 - 79]
Attention, all employees on the engine assembly line. The maintenance team has found oil
leaking under a conveyor belt, so we'll have to shut down production until the leak can be
fixed. We don't expect the repairs to take long, so ... since your lunch break starts in about 15
minutes, we're just going to extend lunchtime today from the usual half hour to 45 minutes.
Enjoy the extra time, and we'll see you back at your workstations at one o'clock.
[80 - 82]
Our company's annual health fair will be taking place next week. I'm excited to tell you that
this year you'll be able to meet individually with a nutritionist to ask questions about your diet
and get a personal nutrition plan. What an opportunity! How could you miss this? I hope
everyone will have time to participate. Oh, and we're asking that you sign up ahead of
time on the sheet posted in the break room-we need to know how many of you will be
attending.
[83 - 85]
In business news, Speedy Communications has just announced that their newest mobile
phone, the Shadowspeak, will go on the market next month. The Shadowspeak will have all
the latest features, but what sets it apart is the battery, which lasts twice as long as the
industry standard. The company hopes to generate interest in the Shadowspeak with a
special promotional event - the first 100 customers in line at the flagship store will receive
a free phone.
[86 - 88]
Wow. Look at the time. lt's already 11:45, but that's OK. I promise we will still spend plenty of
time looking at our collection of famous instruments in our display room, which most people
say is the highlight of this tour. But now that we have learned what materials are used to
make guitars, we will move on to the production floor. This is where our craftspeople actually
make the instruments. Before we go through the doors, please make sure your safety goggles
and breathing mask are on properly so that the dust from the woodwork does not get in
vour face.
[89 - 91]
I know you've all been waiting to find out who our board of directors selected to receive the
Graystone Achievement Award. This award recognizes an employee who's really contributed
a lot to our work here at LC Sportswear. This year we're proud to present the award to Juan
Mendez from the graphic design department. He did an outstanding job creating our new
company logo. This image is what consumers see on every one of our athletic products, and
Juan's striking design is sure to attract more attention.
[92 - 94]
Finally, I wanted to discuss some vacation requests. A number of drivers have asked me for time
off later this month... but you know it's the holiday season. Shipping volumes for the next four
weeks have increased by forty percent. And in fact, we're going to be so busy that we
some temporary help. So, to those who submitted requests, if you want to take a vacation
after the holidays,I'm going to return your request forms to you so you can resubmit
them with new dates.
[95 - 97]
I have one final issue to discuss at today's staff meeting. I just handed out a graph
summarizing our shoe store's annual sales data. And, well... I think this information is
particularly interesting since we relocated to a different neighborhood this year. As you might
have expected, the relocation decreased our sales significantly at first. During the experienced
the lowest quarter we moved, we shoe sales of the entire year. That was largely because
people in the new neighborhood didn't know about us. However, thanks to the newspaper
advertisements and radio commercials we put out, business picked up quickly, and we
ended the year by making a record number of sales.
[98 - 100]
As mayor of Bloomville, I've called this press conference to announce the city's decision about
how we'll be allocating the remaining funds in this year's budget. We researched the costs of
doing various projects, and it looks like we'll have enough money to fund only one project:
adding bike lanes to the main roadways. I know how popular the library expansion was, but
uh, unfortunately, we'll have to delay that until a later time. I'm now ready to take any
questions you have about the budget about the project itself.
