1. What is Purposive Communication?

Purposive Communication tackles about writing, speaking, and presenting to varied
audiences and for various objectives (Purposive Communication, 2017). Students can
develop cultural and intercultural awareness and skills through purposeful communication,
allowing them to interact effectively and accurately with a wide range of audiences, both
local and global (AskAnyDifference,n.d.).

2. What is language?
Language is the more common form of human communication, consisting of organized
and conventionally used words transmitted by voice, writing, or gesture. The basic aim of
language is to facilitate communication, or the conveyance of information from one person
to another (Crystal & Robins, 2021).

3. What is Communication?
The act of transferring information from one place, person, or group to another is
known as communication. Giving, receiving, and exchanging information — in other
words, talking, writing, and listening or reading — is the act of communication. A sender,
a message, and a recipient are major elements of every communication. Good
communicators pay attention to what others are saying, speak or write clearly, and respect
differing viewpoints (Common Sense Media, n.d.; Skills You Need, n.d.).

4. Can animals communicate?

Animals can communicate with each other and to people through their body
language, voice, scent, touch, and even chemical (pheromones) and electrical signals. For
example, animals mark their territories with their scent indicating other animals to stay
away (Wonderopolis, n.d.).

5. What is the difference between first language and second language?

The student's native or indigenous language is referred to as L1, or first language. It is
also known as the "mother tongue" or the "natural language." The second language is any
other spoken language learnt after the first language. The first language is acquired and the
acquiring process is subconscious and rapid (6 years from birth). On the other hand, the
second language is learned and the learning process requires conscious constant effort and
it varies across languages and people, but will take longer period compared to first
language (Basic Concept, n.d.).

6. What happens when language came into contact with another language?
When speakers of different languages interact closely, their languages are likely to
influence one another through transfer/borrowing of features. Language contact is a source
of alternative pronunciations, grammatical structures, and vocabulary which include
pidgins, creole, loan words, calques, or other types of borrowed material. Prolonged
language contact generally leads to bilingualism or multilingualism. The results of such
contact differ according to length and intensity of contact, types of social, economic, and
political relationships, and the degree of similarity between the languages (Winford, n.d.;
Nordquist, 2020).
7. Why is Communication important to society?
There is no denying that communication is essential to human life and civilization.
Without communication, there will be no progress in any society as there will be no
learning due to lack of information. It not only aids in the process of sharing information
and knowledge with others, but it also aids in the development of interpersonal
relationships.

8. Why do you think communication skills are considered to be essential in being a

good citizen?
Communication skills are regarded crucial and can help you become a good citizen
because communication is the key to everyone's success and better interrelationships,
whether in business, technology, politics, or in any career. By having communication
skills, you would know how to interact with other people, regardless of age or social
status, in an appropriate manner.

9. What is meant by "the art of communication is the language of leadership"

The statement shows that good leadership requires good communication skills. By
being a leader, you must establish good relationship with the people under your
responsibility. To attain this, a leader must communicate effectively. For example, in
managing a business, owners who are unable to adequately express their vision to their
employees will be unable to accomplish tasks in the manner that they desire. Politicians
won’t be able to impart their vocation to public service to citizens without good
communication skills. Indeed, it’s not what you say but how you say it.

9. What problems can happen when there are communication breakdowns? What
does Berlin mean when he says "In teaching a way of experiencing the world, a
way of ordering and making a sense of it"
When communication breaks down, problems like alienation and a strong sense of
misunderstanding might occur, leading to misinterpretation, nervous breakdown,
loneliness, conflict, and overthinking in most cases. It has the capacity to change a
person's psychological state, such as how they feel and think.
Berlin emphasizes in his statement that through writing (or communication), we can
experience the world as we make sense of it. Given what we see or experience, we make
sense to it by giving meanings to various symbols, and integrate it to our lives.
Writing/Communication is not just a mere technical skill we learn (Rick, n.d.). Rather, it
enables us to understand the dynamics of other people around us and the world, in general.

11. Why is Communication important to you?

Communication is important to me because without it, I won’t be able to express
myself and I won’t be able to have close relationships with the people I value. Indeed, no
man is an island. We are social beings. Without communication, life will be meaningless.
By having communication, people can express themselves, and the same time, inform
entertain, or persuade other people.
