ABOUT GO NEWARK HOOPFEST

With 84 basketball games scheduled this year, including the East Regional of the 2011 NCAA®
Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament (March 23-27), the Prudential Center is one of the top
three venues in the country for basketball, along with LA’s Staples Center and NY’s Madison
Square Garden. Newark’s reputation as one of the best basketball cities in the nation keeps
growing, bringing even more energy to Newark’s resurgence.

On January 25, Mayor Cory Booker and Governor Chris Christie officially launched GoNewark
HoopFest and USA Today declared “The NCAA® tournament is coming to Newark and the city is
ready!”

Newark is the only new city, and the Prudential Center the only new venue, to host an NCAA®
Regional Tournament in 2011.

To promote Brick City’s rich and storied basketball history and celebrate March Madness’ first trip
to Newark, Mayor Booker established the GoNewark Sports & Entertainment Committee

(GNSEC) to coordinate GoNewark HoopFest alongside Seton Hall University, the official host for
the NCAA® Tournament. GoNewark HoopFest will provide both local residents and out-of-state
fans descending on Newark for the NCAA® Tournament with a wide range of activities,
information and services to ensure a successful event. GoNewark HoopFest will continue during

the next six months as the City welcomes other basketball events including the Nets, Seton Hall,
New York Liberty, Newark National Invitational and the NBA Draft.

In addition to promoting a full range of a GoNewark HoopFest Events a coordinated effort is being
made to welcome college basketball fans arriving from around the country. GoNewark volunteers
will be out in force at all major transportation hubs, hotels, the FanFest and the HoopFest Street
Team. In addition, a special FREE shuttle system will bring fans from area hotels to the
Downtown, connecting them with the Prudential Center, FanFest, the Ironbound district and
Halsey Street.

A special  edition  of  Newark’s  Visitor’s  Guide  will  be  published—available at all GoNewark
HoopFest Visitor Information Desks and from our HoopFest Street Team—to help fans plan their
stay and make their way around the City. The guide details the full schedule of events and
exciting information about the wide variety of attractions and restaurants that Brick City has to
offer!

Important Notes for HoopFest Volunteers

 You may log on to www.GoNewark.com/Volunteer at any time to access your profile, make
changes to contact information, see your itinerary, change shifts (if available), etc. Or from
the main www.GoNewark.com/HoopFest just click on the “Volunteers” tab.

 Each site or assignment will have a Volunteer Captain. He or she is your primary point of
contact during GoNewark HoopFest and has received special training to address issues
that may come up. You are provided with their contact information in this guide and you
may feel free to reach out to them directly.

 Call your Volunteer Captain if you have any problems, need to cancel, will be late, etc.
NOTE: If you are volunteering at more than one site or activity, you will be working with
more than one Volunteer Captain.

 Please stay at your volunteer post until your relief volunteers arrive for the next shift. This
may mean you will have to stay an extra few minutes if your fellow volunteers are running
late.

 Please plan to orient your relief volunteers when they arrive and give them any relevant
advice regarding common questions from guests and fans, etc. Any particular issues
related to that site that you can convey will make for smooth transitions between shifts.
Remember, we’re all on the same team!

 If you are the first or last shift of the day, your Volunteer Captain will have specific
instructions for you about how to set-up or broken-down your volunteer site.

 If you think you’ll get hungry during your volunteer shift, feel free to bring your own snacks!
Food will not be provided at your volunteer shift.

 Regardless of number of shifts you are volunteering for, you will receive ONE voucher to
enjoy free food and drink at UBER BURGER / BRICK CITY COFFEE on Lafayette Street
near the Prudential Center. Vouchers may be used at any time during the four operational
days of FanFest. Please enjoy, you deserve it!

 If you complete your confirmed shifts, you will be invited to special Volunteer Appreciation
Night at the Prudential Center at a New Jersey Devils vs. Toronto Maple Leafs game.
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 6. Mayor Booker is planning to attend to say a special “thank you”
to you all! Only volunteers who complete their shifts will receive two complimentary tickets

The Prudential Center

In October of 2007, Prudential Center ushered in a new era in sports and entertainment
in Newark and the entire Northern New Jersey area. Newark is currently undergoing a
major revitalization, converting the city core into a vibrant and energized entertainment
district. The Prudential Center, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, The Newark
Symphony, Riverfront Stadium and in 2009, Red Bull Park in Harrison, represent just
part of the nearly $2 billion in construction underway.

Prudential Center is the cornerstone in the revitalization and renaissance of downtown

Newark. In addition to the arena, Newark will soon add scores of condominiums,
restaurants, themed bars, and mixed retail establishments. Prudential Center will be
recognized among the finest arenas in the country and is New  Jersey’s  home  for
hockey, college basketball, professional basketball, concerts, family shows and special
events. A public / private partnership between the City of Newark and Devils Arena
Entertainment, made the $375 million Prudential Center a reality that is changing the
