to take revenge of their loss in the battle of Badr. In the leadership of Abu Sufyan,
they wanted to attack Madina with an army of 3000 people.
Prophet (pbuh) was personally of the opinion to fought the battle from inside the
Madina but majority insisted to fought from outside. There were approximately
1000 people gathered for the war in the Muslim army. Mount Uhad was at height
so it chosen as it was strategically beneficial for the Muslims army. Prophet (pbuh)
set the archers at the posts with the order not to leave their position in any case.
Muslims fought bravely and killed many Quraishs but in the end when they are
about to win the war and Quraishs were running leaving behind their booty, the
archers in the greed to collect the material disobeyed the order and left the posts.
Muhammad life was also in danger and he was injured too. Khalid Bin Walid, the
head of the enemy cavalry, found the opening in the mountain undefended. So, he
attacked with his army. Quraish also shouted that Mohammad had been killed

including Hazrat Hamza (uncle of Prophet pbuh ).

LESSONS FROM BATTLE OF UHAD:

Muslims learnt the following invaluable lessons from the battle of Uhad
Obedience of Prophet(pbuh):
In the battle, Prophet (pbuh) ordered the archers to not to leave their positions
form the mountain of Uhad but as they are close to victory they left their positions
for the booty and gave the chance for the enemy to attack. This gives lesson if they
were obedient to their leader (Muhammad pbuh) they would not have faced the
defeat and loss of so many Muslims including Hazrat Hamza.
Being Muslim doesn’t ensure victory:
After the victory in the battle of Uhad ,some Muslims thought that they will
eventually win this war. However, this time they have more equipment and
strength of people but there was overconfidence due to previously won war. The
battle taught us that victories are to be earned by efforts and strategic planning and
is not guaranteed for Muslims.
Greediness for booty:
The reason that archers left the specified location they were ordered to
stay on was to collect the booty and mistake made them lost the wined
battle.
