Main Landmark: Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol Building.

Prominent features: The lagoon which is inhabited by thousands of tilapias. A playground

located near the main entrance. The Paghimud-os monument by Eduardo S. Castrillo, situated
at the main entrance. A statue of a woman standing beside a water buffalo and a statue of a
man pulling a water buffalo. An obelisk which stands directly opposite the main entrance of the
Provincial Capitol.
Building History: In 1926, then Governor Jose Locsin decided to erect a provincial capitol
building that reflected the province's status as the wealthiest at that time due to the boost in the
sugar industry. The Provincial Board looked onto his request and set aside a budget of Php
255,000. On 2 June 1927, the Bureau of Public Works, which had the mandate to approve all
the construction of public infrastructures in the country, approved the proposal of the province
and authorized the construction of the capitol.
In July 2001, rehabilitation of the capitol was initiated by Governor Joseph G. Marañon and it
was inaugurated on 23 June 2004. On 19 July 2004, the National Historical Commission of the
Philippines under Resolution No. 9, declared it as a National Historical Landmark.

temperature. It brings people closer to the environment. Business opportunities are presents
for small street vendors.
It is located near the busiest street so safety is always a concern. Some areas outside the
park poses are unlit and are the perfect venue for a crime.
