Good, Better, Best Writing Essay Samples

Here are 3 samples or sentences of 3 different writing styles

for an essay. These 3 sentences have the same meanings.
Your grades in writing differ from one another because of
these 3 different styles of writing.

1. MEDIOCRE (Medium) ESSAY Writing Style:

I developed a new compassion for the disabled.

First, let me explain the meaning of the above sentence. Developed

means to feel, compassion means sympathy and disabled means a
sick person. So the meaning of the sentence is : I felt a sympathy for
the sick person.

No. 1 writing style above is a very common writing style.

This is a medium standard of writing because you start the
sentence with a subject (I), then a verb which is (developed)
and later end up writing the object which is (a new compassion
for the disabled). You follow a common structure
(Subject+Verb+Object).

-Here you don’t have any variations in writing. You are following a
strict structure.

Let us now look at No. 2, a better writing style below.

2. BETTER ESSAY Writing Style:

Whenever I had the chance to help the disabled, I did so happily.

See how this sentence is different from No. 1 sentence.

This sentence doesn’t start with a Subject, but with (Whenever)
which is a transition and it expresses time. Then it talks about
helping the sick person. It also says about getting a chance to help.
Happily is an adverb which shows how I felt.

This sentence is more informative and expresses the actions more

specifically for better understanding than No. 1 sentence. Using
transitions and adverbs in writing is a smart style.

Now let’s move on to No. 3 Sentence which can be considered as the

best writing style.

3.- EXCELLENT ESSAY Writing Style:

The next time Mrs. Cooper asked me to help her across the street, I
smiled and immediately took her arms.

In no. 3 sentence, we now know the name of the sick person who is
Mrs. Cooper. What type of help is also clearly written that is to help
cross the street. It also says how happy you are to help. The next
time is a transition giving an information ‘when it happened’
Immediately is an adverb which means how you are helping. ‘Took
to arms’ is a phrase which means catching hold of her hands and
helping her to cross the street.

No. 3 sentence has all the information and skills of writing, some of
which you lack in the above No. 1 and No. 2 sentences.

So from the above discussion, it is clear that using transitions at the

beginning or anywhere in the sentence, using phrases, giving clear
and specific information, using adverbs, adjectives and other parts
of speech in writing is the best form of writing style as it gives you a
very clear picture of the situation and a reader may feel interesting
to read.

1. I developed a new compassion for the disabled.

2. Whenever I had the chance to help the disabled, I did so
happily.
3. The next time Mrs. Cooper asked me to help her across the
street, I smiled and immediately took her arms.

Now Practice writing mediocre and excellent examples of the

following sentence.

Mediocre writing: I go skiing every weekend.
