SOFA
MEETING
A BoConcept sofa must be able to meet several needs. It must
be able to fit into big rooms as well as small city flats. It must
be perfect to sprawl on when watching TV or reading a book
- and comfortable to sit in when working on your laptop or
having a cup of coffee.
Finally, as a piece of furniture in a global concept, it must be an outstanding design.

Most people would back away, but furniture designer, Anders Nørgaard, simply Kristian Varisbøl, Charlotte Høncke and Martin Høgel work closely with Anders Nørgaard on new
sofa and chair designs for BoConcept
thrives on these challenges. Together with BoConcept, he provides ideas for a large
number of BoConcept chairs and sofas. One of these chairs has just received the red
dot award in the category product design 2008. See page 4.
The soft centre

'I love sofas. They form the ideal gathering point in most homes. The soft element
that's used for so many things. So it must be hard-wearing. And comfortable, too.
Rules that must be followed when a new sofa is being created. But at the same time, the
soft lines of a sofa are a play zone enabling us to create a unique piece of furniture that
oozes character and personality. It's the centre of the living room,' explains Anders
Nørgaard.
'Whenever I travel around the world I get a kick when I see one of my sofas in a
BoConcept Brand Store. The sofa combinations vary greatly from one region
to another, and the cover can change the look of the sofa completely. It is quite a
humbling experience to see your design interpreted differently throughout the world
– in Norway, New Zealand and New York.'
2.
Front seats
This year, Anders Nørgaard also launches a new sofa line. With its voluminous shapes
and characteristic stitching, the Como sofa has a very futuristic look. 'The new Como
sofa oozes power and has a raw yet refined look. The characteristic stitching is inspired
by form-fitting clothes,' explains the designer.
As with the rest of the BoConcept sofa collection, Como is based on a modular system,
which offers the consumers the possibility to build their very own sofa. However, the
system does not contain more modules than necessary. 'Designing a sofa with 200
modules is easy. But how are the customers supposed to get an overall view? The
challenge lies in achieving only a small number of modules that can be combined in
numerous ways. This way we offer our customers a simple modular system, and we
have done our job.'

DESIGN WITH
NO BOUNDARIES
BoConcept is international design. The Spanish city of Valencia
is one among many international bases for international
furniture design that provide inspirational ideas for the
BoConcept collection.
Traditionally, the commerce of this third largest city in Spain was based on furniture
production and retailing. Today, the city is home to museums, theatres, avant-garde
architecture and a number of international design companies. It is also where Danish An international team of designers work with Morten Georgsen on creating functional design for
BoConcept
furniture designer, Morten Georgsen, runs his design company, Futhark.
Dynamic melting pot

Together with BoConcept, Morten Georgsen has been designing and developing wall
units, tables and other pieces of furniture for a number of years. His team comprises
architects and designers of different nationalities, gender and age. 'Our global
composition represents the entire BoConcept philosophy. To create simple designs
that are functional and which appeal to people in many different countries. We draw
inspiration from our visits to big cities all over the world. Big cities are cultural melting
pots that create energy and mobility and which constantly challenge us to redefine the
framework of our lifestyle,' explains Morten Georgsen.
'Designing a new product is a dynamic process. Together with BoConcept, we have

different cultural approaches to design. We challenge each other. Use each other's
experience and expertise. The perfect combination to interpret trends, so we truly
match our urban and internationally-oriented customers. Without compromising the
identity and function of the design,' explains Morten Georgsen.
Smooth sculptural storage

'Simplicity and functionality are BoConcept core values. What good is it if a piece of
furniture is beautiful – but not functional? International design is very often created
on the basis of a 'suffer for beauty' motto. Why – when you can have both?' asks 2.

This attitude was used when new designs such as Fermo were created: 'The introduction
of the flat screen TV minimises the need for deep TVl Hi-Fi units. This opens up new
possibilities. Fermo has geometrical legs and smooth, white surfaces. It is the ideal
piece of furniture for flat screens. And for any room. With or without a flat screen,
Fermo is simple and functional design.'
