FREEDOM FROM STRESS
Stress is a part of our lives. However there is only so much that our mind and body can endure
before our functioning begins to drop. Self care is the key to maintaining the balance between
stress and functioning. It also helps add joy to life.

Physical Self-care:
• At any time of the day, take a break from work and keep 20 minutes out for taking a walk, go
for a jog or yoga.

• Sleep and wake at a fixed hour everyday, ensuring 6-7 hours of sleep to create a healthy
sleep routine.

Emotional Self-care:
• Positive re-affirmation: Think and note down 1 thing you like about yourself everyday.

• Take a break every hour for at least 5-7 minutes and engage with something you enjoy, like
music, doodling, gardening, singing etc.

• Monitor what/who consumes your time and energy. Try to protect or recharge your energy.

Social Self-care:
• Take time out to have a meaningful conversation with a friend/family member for at least 5
minutes everyday.

• Set aside at least 25-30 mins a day after your work hours to do leisurely activities with
others such as cooking, watching & playing with your family or friends

2
Spiritual Self-care:
• Take out 5 mins in a day to sit down and do some calm and deep breathing. Guided
resources you may use - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bvdzTs0m510; https://m.youtube.

• Gratitude Journal- Think and note down one thing (at least) that you are grateful for. You may
use a device, an app or a notebook to do so.

Things to remember about self care:

• Self care practices are interconnected, doing one will not suffice. Doing something from each
category creates a well rounded self care practice.

• Persistence is the key to achieving a healthy self care habit and in turn well-being.

• Self-care is unique for everyone and it is not selfish.

• It is not an excuse to procrastinate your work

• Self-care is more than just leisure and luxury.
