This document summarizes a 2008 research study that developed computer-based strategic intervention materials (SIMs) as an alternative way to teach English world literature at the secondary level. The study validated the SIMs, tested their effectiveness in teaching English, and gathered teacher and student reactions to using the computer-based materials. Checklists were used to evaluate the SIMs and computer courseware at different stages of the design, production, delivery, and revision process.

Title: Computer-based Strategic Intervention Materials: an alternative delivery mode for the improvement of teaching English World Literature Year: 2008 Acc. No. 660926 Abstract: This research study was conducted to develop computer-based strategic intervention materials (SIMs) that can be used as an alternative delivery mode for the improvement of English teaching in the secondary level.
More specifically, it tried to: 1) validate the materials in terms of
objectives, content, assessment, enrichment activities and instructional materials, 2) determine the effectiveness of the materials in teaching English and 3) determine the reactions of the teachers in English and the students to the use of the computer-based strategic intervention materials.
The study used the systems view of computer-based design and
delivery with five important steps namely: planning, designing, production, preliminary evaluation and research, delivery and final evaluation and revision.
Checklists were validated and used to evaluate the materials
and the computer courseware. The checklists were pattered after the instruments used to evaluate strategic intervention materials and computer-based lessons. A checklist was also prepared, validated and used to determine the reactions of the teacher/students to the computer-based intervention materials. Interviews were also conducted to supplement the quantitative data gathered using the checklist.
