Node controller Battery Capacity Testing

Rated Battery Voltage 24 Volts

Rated Battery Ah 8 Ah
Fully discharged battery 21 Volts 1.75V/cell
Fully charged battery 28.8 to 29.4 V 2.4 to 2.45 volts per cell
Cells 12
Step Action
1 Measure Battery voltage Record the values
2 If measured voltage as per step 1 is
a Fully discharged battery Charge the Battery
b Fully charged battery Plan for Load test
3 Perform charging cycle of battery
Bulk Charging Deeply discharged battery will start in
bulk mode with charging current of 2 A
and voltage steeply increasing toward
28 V
Absorption Charging Mild increase in terminal voltage with
less current
Float Charging It is trickle charging compensating self
discharge and maintains battery
voltage
4 Perform Dis-charging cycle of battery
Discharge can be any of the below
Discharge current (Amps) Final / Cutoff voltage (volts) Discharge time (Hours) Discharge current (Amps) Final / Cutoff voltage (volts)
20 Hr Rated capacity 0.4 21 Greater than 20 hrs 1.75 10.5
10 Hr Rated capacity 0.8 21 Greater than 9.5 hrs 3.5 10.5
1 Hr Rated capacity 4 20.4 Greater than 1 hrs 17.5 10.2
0.5 Hr Rated capacity 8 19.8 Greater than 0.5 hrs 35 9.9
5 Measure Battery voltage Record the values
6 Fully discharged battery Charge the Battery
7 Perform charging cycle of battery
Bulk Charging Deeply discharged battery will start in
bulk mode with charging current of 2 A
and voltage steeply increasing toward
28 V
Absorption Charging Mild increase in terminal voltage with
less current
Float Charging It is trickle charging compensating self
discharge and maintains battery
voltage
Test Results If the tested battery withstands and gains back the voltage then consider battery to be healthy
