Introduction

ES
 Breathing air compressor is used in a

C
VI
multitude of industrial / oil & gas

R
SE
applications. The design of a safe, efficient

Y
distribution system for a high pressure air

ET
is critical to the successful use of that air

F
SA
for a particular application.
DE
 Breathing air compressor uses only quality
IT
N

components that are specifically designed

IU

for high pressure. All components are

AB

applied within their design parameters.

Air Flow Diagram

ES
The air is drawn in through intake filter (1),

C
compressed to the final pressure in cylinders (2, 3, 4,

VI
and 5) and cooled by intercoolers (6, 7 and 8) and

R
after cooler (9). The safety valves (13, 14, 15 and 16)

SE
protect from overpressure in the individual stages.

Y
The compressed air is filtered by intermediate

ET
separator (10 and 11) and oil and water separator

F
assembly (12). The intermediate separator (10 and

SA
11) and oil and water separator (12) are drained by
condensate valves (18). The pressure maintaining

D
valve (17) keeps the pressure constant within the
E
IT
separators (10, 11 and 12).

Operating Procedures

ES
 Pre-Start up Procedure

C
VI
• Ensure that all scheduled maintenance is completed.

R
• Check compressor oil level.

SE
• Read and understand the diesel engine OEM operating

Y
ET
instructions.

F
• Check drive engine oil level.

SA
• Verify that all connections downstream of the

D
compressor are secure.
E
IT
• Open the condensate drain valves to relieve any
N
IU

remaining pressure.
AB

• Close the condensate drain valves

AW

• Check the engine fuel level and refill the fuel tank if
required.

Operating Procedures

ES
 Refilling Procedure

C
VI
R
• Make sure environment around is free of any toxic gasses or contaminants.

SE
• Go through the compressor checklist and log, make sure everything is ok.

Y
• Use proper PPE

ET
• Line up and secure refill line to cascade rack.

F
• Place the BA cylinder into the blast tube (for AQT only), securely attach the

SA
compressor refill line, slowly open the cylinder valve, close and secure
container. Follow compressor air sampling procedure (SOPS-125A)

E D
• Run the breathing air compressor, slowly open the refill valve allowing the
IT
air to flow to the cylinder being refilled.
N

• When filling is complete, shut down the compressor & close the refill valve
IU

• Open blast tube and close cylinder valve

AB

• Open the bleed off valve [on the T-assembly] to bleed off the refill line
pressure
AW

• Disconnect the cylinder from the refill line.

R

• Don’t break the connection unless completely depressurize.

©

• Bleed off the high pressure air from compressor if it is not to be used
immediately.
12

Proper Maintenance and Care

ES
 SCBA/SABA/EEBA cylinders are prohibited to be refilled directly to

C
from compressor.

VI
R
SE
 Compressor must be manned/attended during the whole operation.

Y
 Maintain and update compressor log to track maintenance

ET
intervals.

F
SA
 Run the compressor not more than 2.5 hrs continuously, let it cool

D
down for 30 minutes then start again.
E
IT
 Inspect the compressor after use, if any deficiency or maintenance
N
IU

is required, make an I/A report.

AB

 Air samples shall be taken every week (onsite AQT) and every 3
AW

months (3rd party Air Analysis) to ensure air quality as per purity
standards. Follow compressor air sampling procedure (SOPS-
R

125A).
