FIELD GAMBS
Sometimes war games are played in the fleld. Th& reserves
are divided into groups and glven dlfferent goals. They are
assigned speclal áreas and responsiblllties. One groupTE
responslbild/ty is defetise. Thls defense group must deferid the
área in its borders. The borders are the linea which divide the
áreas from eech other. The defense group must stop everyone from
tahing over its erea. Another group la an attack group. The
attack group attacks or strikes flrst. Its goal is to take over,
or get control of, the defense group's área. These two groups
become enemies durlng the games. Each one tries to beat the
other. The third group ia a group that doesn't particípate in

I nave listened co snd read all the speeches made in San Antonio
about Armed Forcea Week.. whether it was the Governor or another of
the Generáis, it seemed to me I had heatd ít all before, Platitudes
and cliches-
Ic waa as though none of the spealcera had ever done guard duc^'--
because thac's whac it's all about: in war or peace, scanding there
alone, hour afcer hourH often cold and wet, or in Che blazing sun to
the point of exhaustion, fighting off sleep and a thousand personal
baccles of the mind, yet remaining alert and ready Co challenge and
defefld.
How, take the discomEort of that single peraon atanding guard
duty and multiply it by every soldíer, aailor, airman, and marine,
here at home and a round tiie worldí and yon get the true meaning of
Armed Forcea Week.--standing on guard for America.
