1. Calcium is one of the minerals suggested to be included in
our daily intake from the time we were born until we grow
older. Explain the role of calcium in bone function, and the
role of the bone in calcium homeostasis.

2. One of the major promoters of bone remodelling and

increased bone thickness is mechanical stress on the bone.
Explain this mechanism and give an example.

3. During childbirth, and usually in a normal delivery, the baby's

head can pass through the birth canal without pressing on
and damaging their brain. Relate the function of the sutures
and fontanel in this captivating scenario. Discuss as well the
reason behind feeling the cranial sutures and fontanel as one
way that health care providers follow the child's growth and
development.

4. Normally, as you grow older, you grow taller. Describe the

specific location where bones grow in length and in diameter.
Discuss the particular activities that happen in these areas of
the bones.

5. You attended a swimming class because it is one of the most

popular physical activities in the summer and thought as a
positive form of regular exercise while on vacation. Imagine
that when swimming the buoyancy of the water allows you to
move limbs and joints more easily through their normal range
of motion. Describe as many different movements of the
joints of the upper and lower limb when swimming in the
water.
