ACTIVE AND PASSIVE VOICE (10 PTS)


A. Direction: Each sentence given below is in the Passive Voice. Change it into
Active Voice.

1. The old warehouse in our hometown was struck by lightning.


2. This morning the suspect was arrested by the police.
3. The first commercially successful portable vacuum cleaner was
invented by a janitor ,who was allergic to dust.
4. The latest edition of this textbook is being read by most of the
class.
5. Results will be published in the next issue of our journal.

B. Direction: Each sentence given below is in the Active Voice.
Change it into Passive Voice.

1. The school principal called his parents to the office yesterday.


2. The student copied the new lesson into her notebook.
3. The salesperson talked Jasper into buying a new car.
4. The gardener has planted some trees.
5. A famous designer will redecorate the hotel.
Sentence Patterns
1. Subject (S) – The topic of the sentence.
2. Transitive Verb (TV) – verb the requires a direct object.
3. Intransitive Verb (IV) – verb that does not require a direct object.
4. Direct Object (DO) – a noun or pronoun that receives the action of a
Transitive Verb.
5. Indirect Object (IO)- noun or pronoun receiving the direct object.
6. Linking Verb (LV) – verb that links the subject and its complement.
7. Object Complement (OC) – an adjective or noun that describes the direct
object.
8. Subject Complement (SC) – an adjective or noun that describes the direct
object.
