1. A health and fitness mobile application recommends a daily diet of

at least 4000 units of vitamins, 50 units of minerals and 1400
calories for a user. Two foods A and B are available at a cost of Rs
25 and Rs 35 per unit respectively. If one unit of A contains 200
units of vitamins, 1 unit of mineral and 40 calories and one unit of
food Contains 100 units of vitamins, 2 units of minerals and 40
calories, find by using graphic method, what combination of foods
can be used to have least cost.
2. For the upcoming festive season, Delicious Sweets is planning to
offer two gift packages A and B. Each package will comprise of
sweets S1, S2 and S3. Package A contains 20 units of S1, 15 units
of S2 and 10 units of S3.Package B contains 10 units of S1, 30
units of S2 and 12 units of S3. Total quantities of S1, S2 and S3
available to Delicious Sweets are 40,000 units,60,000 units and
27,000 units respectively. The profit per unit on package A is Rs.
200 and on package B is Rs. 300. Formulate this problem as a liner
programming problem. Assuming that all the packages will be
sold, solve the problem use the graphical method to determine
how many packages of A and B should be prepared to maximize
the profit?
3. A workshop has three types of machines A, B and C; it can
manufacture two products 1 and 2, and all products have to go to
each machine and each one goes in the same order; First to the
machine A, then to B and then to C. Product 1 needs 2 hours in A,
one hour in B and 4 hours in C. Product 2 needs 2 hours in A, 2
hours in B and 2 hours in C. The total available hours per week on
Machine A, B and C are 16, 12 and 28 respectively. The product 1
earns a profit of Rs 1 per unit and product 2 earns profit of Rs 1.50
per unit. Formulate LPP to maximize profit and solve using the
graphical method.
4. A chips manufacturing company has production of two types of
potato chips, cream cheese and tomato. To produce one unit of
Cream cheese 3 units of material A and 1 unit each of material B
and C respectively are required. To produce one unit of tomato
flavored chips, 1 unit of each material A and material B
respectively and 2 units of material C is required. Not more than 40
units of material C can be used and at least 27 units of material A
must be used. The use of material B in total should be equal to
21.The selling price per unit of cream cheese is Rs 16 and tomato
is Rs 8 respectively. The manufacturing cost per unit of cream
cheese chips is Rs 8 and tomato flavored chips id Rs 4. Formulate
the problem into an LPP and solve for number of units of both
variety of chips to minimize cost.
5. M/s Mahabir engineering works have obtained a large contract for
the supply of an alloy steel. The alloy needs three metals X, Y, Z .
The min requirement of the metals per week would be – 12units of
x , 10 units of y and 14 units of Z. The metals are available from
the dealers who supply them in 121 ,321 and 115 respectively. Box
121 contains 1 unit of x 2 units of y and 1 unit of z. box 321
contains 3 units of x 2 units if y and 1 unit of z. whereas box 115
contains 1 unit of x and y each and 5units of z. the cost of 1 box of
type 121,321 and 115 is respectively Rs 1200 Rs 900 and Rs
1500.Draft it as a LPP to determine the number of boxes of each
kind to be bought so that the required amounts of x, y and Z are
obtained at the minimum possible cost. Determine the optimal
product mix. Formulate the dual of the problem and its economic
interpretation.

6. A company produces three products A, B and C. These products

require three ores O1, O2 and O3 . the maximum quantities of ores
O1, O2, O3 available are 22 tonnes,14tonnes, and 14 tonnes
respectively. For one ton of each of these ores, the ore
requirements are as follows. How many tonnes of A, B and C
should the company produce to maximize profit?
Product O1 O2 O3 Profit
per
tonne (in
1000’s)
A 3 1 3 1
B - 2 2 4
C 3 3 0 5

7. The manager of a Petroleum company must decide on the optimum

mix of two possible blending processes of which the inputs and
outputs per production run are as follows:
Process Input(units) Output(units)
Crude A Crude B Gasoline Gasoline
X Y
1 5 3 5 8
2 4 5 4 4

The maximum amount available of crudes A and B is 200 units

and 150 units respectively. Market requirements show that at
least 100 units of gasoline X and 80 units of gasoline Y must be
produced. The profits per production run from process 1 and
process 2 are Rs300 and Rs400 respectively, Solve the LP
problem by graphical method.
