Pharmaceutical Botany With Taxonomy
Pharmaceutical Botany With Taxonomy
Botany is the scientific study of plants - how plants function, what they look like, how they
are related to each other, where they grow, how people make use of plants, and how plants
evolved.
Here are some subdisciplines of botany:
o BACTERIOLOGY – this is the study of bacteria and also considered part of
microbiology
o MYCOLOGY – is the branch of biology concerned with the study of fungi,
including their genetic and biochemical properties, their taxonomy and their use to
humans as a source for tinder, traditional medicine, food, and entheogens, as well as
their dangers, such as toxicity or infection.
o PLANT GENETICS – the study of plant inheritance in plants, genetic variation,
and heredity specifically in plants. It is generally considered a field of biology and
botany, but intersects frequently with many other life sciences and is strongly linked
with the study of information systems.
o PLANT PATHOLOGY – studies the causes of plant diseases, the mechanisms by
which diseases develop in individual plants and in plant populations, and the ways
and means by which plant diseases can be managed or controlled.
o PTERIDOLOGY – the study of ferns and their relatives
A nonliving thing is anything that was never alive. In order for something to be classified as
living, it must grow and develop, use energy, reproduce, be made of cells, respond to its
environment, and adapt. Since plants has all the classifications, therefore, we can distinguish
that plants are living things and not nonliving things.
