The town of beautiful facades

ANTIOQUIA
The town of Antioquia marks the difference for the

peculiar way in which its inhabitants have painted the

facades of their houses. As one enters the town, you

notice the happiness and joy in the area. The nice

paintings and colors all around the city express these

emotions, as well as the behavior of its inhabitants. You

can notice the lack of industrialization over the area, as

most streets are clear paths for people to walk from one

place to another.

Antioquia District is one of thirty-two districts of the province Huarochirí in Peru. Its origins come from the

beginnings of the 20th century when it was created. Its territory covers about 390 square kilometers, at a

height of 1526 meters above sea level. The whole population of the district involves around 1400 persons

and 960 homes, with the town of Antioquia having 171 houses by its own.

"COLOR IS A POWER WHICH DIRECTLY

INFLUENCES THE SOUL. ITS THE LANGUAGE
OF DREAMS."

The history of the popularity of the town comes from

the past decade. As it was located on a valley, most

of it is full of trees and nature, all surrounding the

area. This town was selected for a tourism project

were both Peruvians and international tourists could

visit the more rural areas of the country. With the help

of plastic artists from Peru, Argentina, and Uruguay

the inhabitants colored their homes with beautiful

paintings that represented the sense of nature and

happiness. That’s how we appreciate so many

fabulous designs. Drawings of typical birds on the

district, flowers, horses, and other animals are

presented on each house.

The town itself has many attractions one can visit in a full day visit to the town. Once you get

to the town you may first want to walk through the streets, observing the wonderful work on the

houses. The local museum of Antioquia retains important information about the history of the

district and town, of course showing the most important facts you need to hear. The best point to

observe the whole district and valley is the Balcony over the hill Amancaes, a nice place to take

some time for pictures and just observe the panorama of the area. The town of Antioquia isn’t the

only one you may want to visit. The town of Cochahuayco located above Antioquia shows a

colonial infrastructure style, with more formality over the zone. We suggest that in case you have

extra time after visiting the town of Antioquia you move to the area of Nieve Nieve. There, you can

find an archaeological area with two complexes, on of households and a cemetery.

After all, Antioquia as a

tourism destiny has many

things to give. Showing the

lifestyle and attitude from

this type of rural area is

something different and

amazing. It shows how

diverse we humans can be,

and how art and beauty act

upon our perspectives and

personalities.
