AMRUT MODY SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT

REFLECTION DRIVER: 3 (SESSION 7-9)

SUBMITTED TO: FACULTY JATIN CHRISTIE

NAME: MOHAMMAD AKMAL BUKHARI

ROLL NO - AU2014045.

SESSION -7 (GROUP AND TEAM):

In this session firstly we had look upon the different roles performed by the
class peers. In which one person had become a policeman and one person had
become a common man and vice versa. We came to learn that how roles
influence the person’s behaviour when they get the different roles to perform in
their life.

Then we had seen two videos of Stanford prison experiment and Asch
conformity experiment. In which we had seen that in Zimbardo Stanford
experiment we can learn that how the behaviour of oneself changes when they
are forced to keep in one situation or place for the long time. In Asch
conformity experiment we had learn that how the group influence on individual
judgement even if the individual is right and the whole group is wrong but the
individual think that he is also wrong.

Then we had learn about the PASA norms in which P stands for performance A
stands for appearance S stands for social and A stands for allocation of
resources.

SESSION -8 (TEAM EFFECTIVENESS MODEL AND

CONFLICT AND ITS PROCESS):
In this session we had seen that how team effectiveness model works. Team
effectiveness consists of context, composition and process. In context it contains
of how the resources and leadership leads to effective team decision. While
composition of team consists of the ability of the members, personality and how
the roles work which are allocated to them and the diversity in team also plays a
vital role. Whereas the process consists of the common purpose of the team and
the conflict levels of team are taken into consideration.

Then we had seen a video of two frogs in which we had learnt that how the two
frogs compete with each other for eating the flies and then we saw a video of
Vodafone in which we learnt that how in real life the little things we do matters
the most.

Then we had learned about the types of conflict and its process. There are
mainly three types of conflict are there such as task conflict, relationship
conflict and the value conflict. The conflict process comprises of five stages i.e.
1) Potential opposition or incompatibility in which the presence of conditions
that creates opportunities for conflict to develop. 2) Cognition and
personalization in which conflict must be perceived by the parties to it whether
or not the conflict exists is a perception issue. 3) Intentions in which intentions
are decisions to act in a given way and they intervene between people’s
perception and emotions. 4) Behavior in which conflict becomes visible and it
includes the statements, actions and reactions made by conflicting parties. 5)
Outcomes in which the action and reaction interplay between the conflicting
parties results in consequences.
SESSION – 9 ( CONFLICT DISTANCE, BARGAINING AND
POWER):

In this we had seen practically that how one handle the conflict by the arrow
and the simile. In which the simile was treated as conflict and the arrow was
distance to the conflict. As a result we came to know that if the arrow is far then
that person does not want to handle the conflict and if the arrow is near the
person wants to handle the conflict.

The next thing we had learnt was about the bargaining that is of two types
distributive and integrative bargaining in which distributive bargaining is a
bargaining in which one party wins only if the other party lose and in the
integrative bargaining is a bargaining in which there is a win-win situation in
which both the parties bargains upon the same. Also we had learnt about the
BATNA i.e. (Best Alternative To Negotiated Agreement.) which is a point
where mutually both parties agrees to bargain. Apart from this we had learnt
from a practical example of payback schedule by performance of two teams that
how bargaining works in a real life where either one person wins or lose or both
parties agrees mutually on one decision.

Lastly we had learnt about the power from Frooti video where Shah Rukh Khan
drinks Frooti and all persons were just able to see him and cannot utter a word
which is called a power. And then we came to learn that that there are two types
of power which are formal and personal in which formal power consists of 1)
Legitimate powers in which it is based on how much authority is assigned to
yourself by your organization. 2) Reward powers in which it is based on how
much you are able to give others rewards they want. 3) Coercive powers are
those powers in which how much are you able to punish or withhold your
rewards. Where as in personal powers consists of 1) Expert power in which it is
based on how much knowledge do one have that others need from oneself. 2)
Referent powers is a power in which how much respect you earn from others
and how much others tries to be like you.

Thus these are things I had learnt from these sessions and I am grateful to my
faculty for explaining me and others in understanding the concepts with more
clarity.
