ABOUT AUXILIARIES?
AUXILIARY- Auxiliary in a grammar is a
helping element, typically a verb that adds
meaning to the basic meaning of the main
verb.
Auxiliary verbs are also
called as "helping verb"

FORMS
"BE"
"HAVE"
"DO"
AUXILIARY VERB ALSO TELL US
THE VERB TENSE. WHAT IS VERB
TENSE? VERB TENSE TELL US
ABOUT TIME AND WHEN DID THIS
HAPPEN?
FOR EXAMPLE ON THE "BE", "HAVE"
AND "DO" VERB FORM
BE- I am writing a letter. NOW
HAVE- You have written a letter.PAST
DO- Do they have letter? NOW
"BE" VERB FORM
"BE" verb form is used for continous verb
tenses, present continous can be used to talk
about things happening now.

EXAMPLE:
She is eating pizza.
They are living in japan at the moment.
"BE" VERB FORM

"AM/ARE/IS" plus verb-ing


to talk about things
happening now.
"HAVE" VERB FORM
"HAVE" is used for perfect verb tenses.
Present tense can be used to talk about
things in the past.
EXAMPLE:
I have eaten lunch already.
He has gone to the beach.
"HAVE" VERB FORM

We use the auxiliary HAVE


and HAS
"DO" VERB FORM
"DO" is used for the present
simple verb tense. Present
simple is used for repeated,
opinion or information.

"DO" is used for questions
and present simple verb tense.

Example:
When do you go to the beach?
Does she like the beach?

DON`T AND DOESN`T are used


for negatives.
"DO" VERB FORM
Example:
I always go to the beach on Mondays.
I don`t go to the beach.
She likes to go to the beach.
She doesn`t like the beach.
They live near the beach.
They don`t leave near the beach.
MODAL AUXILIARIES
Modal auxiliaries are auxiliary verbs that
lend different shades of meaning to the
main verb to which they are attached.
ABILITY
MODAL auxiliaries are CAN and COULD.
Example:
Marie can cook spaghetti.
Could you get me a glass of water?
PERMISSION
MODAL auxiliaries are CAN, COULD, AND
MAY..
Example:
May I borrow your pencil?
Can I have a piece of paper?
ADVICE
MODAL auxiliary is SHOULD.

Example:
You should visit your dentist at least
twice a year.
You should stop smoking. It is unhealthy.
OBLIGATION
MODAL auxiliaries are MUST AND HAVE
TO.
Example:
I must study for the quiz tomorrow.
You have to wear your facemask when
you go outside the house.
POSSIBILITY
MODAL auxiliaries are MIGHT, MAY,
COULD AND CAN.
Example:
It might rain today.
If only she studied for the the quiz, she
could have aced it.
