1. What is the central issue to be addressed in the case study?

The case study shows a real time situation faced by an employee, Raju in an
organization The main issue raised is the difficulty faced in making a final decision by
Raju that whether he should stay in Wellbonne company as it was going to engage in
downsizing by 30%. Or shift back to the company which he worked earlier, that is
Charkraj. In Charkraj even when the company does ‘not earn any profit it was shouting
and passing the bucks but not losing the job and colleagues. He left the job in Charkraj
and took a senior job at Wellbonne If he stays in Wellbonne he will face downsizing
which is a common practice in all organization, or else he must convince his vice
president not to go for downsizing. On the other hand, if he shifts back to Charkaraj, he
may face many difficulties including facing his colleagues who may not accept him.

2. If you were Raju, what decision will you take?

If I was Mr Raju, I would be staying in Wellbonne and try to convince the higher
authority and suggest them some alternatives to overcome the problems and increasing
the profit thereby avoiding downsizing. Wellbonne company is good for the growth of
employees. And in case if Wellbonne has no other options rather than downsizing then
I would come up with some best alternatives which can reduce the problems that the
company face now and thereby minimizing downsizing and discuss it with the higher
authority. Staying at a company like Wellbonne can offer career developments.

3. Please indicate how you will justify decision of Raju as suggested by you.

Raju left Charkraj an Indian company and joined Wellbonne in hope of more progress
in his career. He joined Wellbonne to take up a senior job and got a salary increase
which was double of what he received in Charkraj. Even though he knew that there
would be difference in structure, rules, information flow etc, he clearly knew that he
was jumping from successful organization to another. When Wellbonne began to
engage in downsizing, he started facing a problem in making a decision whether he
have to stay in Wellbonne or shift to Charkraj as one of the officer said him that he can
join Charkraj whenever he wanted.
Incase if he goes back to Charkraj he has to work in the same situation he faced earlier.
Where the company did nt give much value to the opinions to employees. And also,
there will be a negative attitude from the subordinates.
In Wellbonne company the system was democratic and there is a free flow of
information and as a result this allows him to engage an open communication with
higher authority. As a result, he can come up with innovative ideas to reduce the
company’s problems. This can make others in the organization that Raju is a highly
dedicated employee and he always holds the values. Maybe he would be kept away
from downsizing.Incase of Charkraj, flow of information is limited.

In my opinion its better for Raju to stay in Wellbonne, even though there will be
downsizing in every organizations. It would be better to stay here which can provide
him more opportunities. And, there will be questions when a person shifts from a high
salaried job to a company that offers less salary. This can also be avoided by staying in
Wellbonne.

4. Do you agree the downsizing policy of Wellbonne because everybody worked

according to organizational policy?

Downsizing occurs in most of the companies in order to reduce the cost and also reduce
the Number of inefficient workers in an organization. In my opinion the downsizing
policy in Wellbonne is not efficient because the employees were working according to
organization policy. The vision of Wellbonne is “Value drive behaviour and behaviour
drives the bottom line”. Such company should find out efficient ways to reduce the cost
and not by downsizing.
The reason for which the company engaged in downsizing was the decrease in
Profitability due to recession in Indian market and competition from Korean Majors.
This can be overcome, by bringing innovative and profitable ideas and not by
eliminating talented employees.
