Injury Prevention

and Safety
Can you tell how
your parents take of
you?
Parents want
their children to
grow and enjoy
a life that is safe
and free from
danger.
Safety
is one of the basic
necessities that a person
needs in life.
Road Safety
Traffic lights
It is a must for an
individual to look at
the traffic lights
before crossing the
streets
Children like you must be
aware of the different road signs
found on the streets. You must
be mindful of safety precautions
whenever you cross the road or
walk along the area. Road signs
are employed to ensure safe and
orderly flow of traffic.
Road Markings
Road lane markings convey
important messages. Just like
road signs, road markings tell
what driver should do and
should not do on the road.
Solid White Lines
On both edges of the road
mean that parking is
prohibited.
White Center Lines
Are used to
separate the
traffic movements
on the road.
Cross Walks
Also known as
pedestrian lanes,
are white lines that
are used to protect
pedestrians
crossing the street.
Hazards
Are dangerous
conditions or events
that result in
potential injury, loss
of life, and damage to
property, agriculture,
or environment.
Natural Hazards
Are hazards that are naturally
occurring and caused either by
the rapid or slow onset of
geophysical, hydrological,
meteorological, and
climatological events.
 Floods
Floods happen when water covers
areas or places that are normally
dry. Floods occur due to
prolonged or heavy rainfall,
severe thunderstorms, monsoons,
or tropical cyclones.
Flooding greatly affects the lives of
people in the community
 Severe Storm
Storm is the atmospheric
disturbance characterized by
strong winds together with rain.
Severe storm causes flash flood,
destroys the environment,
damages buildings and causes
death.
 Earthquake
An earthquake is a sudden
shaking or rolling of the earth’s
surface. It occurs due to plate
movement or volcanic activity.
Human activities such as nuclear
explosion, mining, and quarrying
can also trigger an earthquake.
 Volcanic Eruption
Volcanic eruption gives both positive
and negative effects. The lava and ash
nourish the soil that helps the
growing plants surrounding the
volcano. On the other hand,
discharged material from a volcanic
eruption carries harmful effects.
Volcanic ash, once inhaled, can cause
respiratory problems.
Man-Made Hazards
A man-made hazard is a disaster
resulting from man’s negligence or
error, false intention, or threats. It
includes environmental
degradation, pollution, accidents,
and crimes.
Ways to prevent crime in your
community
1. Learn about local agencies or
non-profit organizations in
your community.
2. Report to the authority or to a
trusted adult any suspicious-
looking persons in your
vicinity.
3. Do not leave signs or posts in
your social media accounts
that you are going to be away
from home for a period of
time.
4. Always secure your windows,
doors, gates, and garage before
you leave home.
5. Inform a trusted neighbor that
you are going to be away for
some time. Leave your contact
number so he or she knows
where to reach you in case of
emergency.
6. Keep valuable things in a safety
box.
7. Never display a large amount
of money in public.
8. Walk on the center of the
sidewalk, away from side
street, and doorways.
9. When going to the mall, make
sure that you are accompanied
by trusted adult.
10. Be aware of your surroundings
when walking. Avoid going to
dark places alone.
