testimony of different eyewitnessess apart from
newpapers.
1. First Reverend Vicente Balager Leyser.
♡︎The priest who became God's instrument in
the conversion and retraction of Rizal.
♡︎ Here, vicente in the Notarial Act, sworn in
Murcia, Spain (August 8, 1917). He declared, on
the faith of an oath, what he witnessed and
learned from eyewitnesses.
But before we discussed what he witness,.let us
first understand what is Notarial Act.
NOTARIAL ACT ~ A notarial act is any written
narration of facts drawn up by a notary,
authenticated by the notary's signature and
official seal.
What does a notarial act do?
It executes the act and explains it to the parties,
he certifies any additional statements and
collects their signatures before personally
signing the act.
Lets go back to what vicente witness and

retraction and left with Josephine Bracken and

Declaration or retraction was signed together
with Dr. Rizal by Senor Fresno, Chief of the
Picket, and Senor Moure, Adjutant of the Plaza.
Sa dulo ng pagsasalaysay niya sinabi ni vicente
"someone may think that I could not remember
it with so many details, after twenty-years. I
testify that on the very day of Rizal’s death I
wrote a very detailed account of everything"
2. Captain Rafael Dominguez y Garcia.
♡︎ Colonel of the Manila Garrison and Judge
Advocate in Rizal’s trial, onduty to watch over
the convict all the time he was in the chapel.
In the NOTARIALACT signed by him in the city of
Badajoz, Spain, May 3, 1918. He declared, that
while he was in Manila towards the end 1806,
as Captain, he was appointed Judge Advocate in
the trial against Dr. Jose Rizal.
He has the notes on what happened during the
event and the execution of rizal dahil siya
mismo ang naappoimt naagbantay.
Sa mga nabasa ko sa notes ni Garcia, I think
nagpapatunay ito sa detailed story of Vicente na
nagretract si rizal because sinabi rin dito about
sa pagbisita ng mga reverand noong 29 ng
disyembre sa chapel cell.
The Reverend Jesuit Fathers, Luiz Viza, Jose
Villaclara, Vicente Balaguer, and Faura, come to
visit him.

visited him to be married andpromises to write
his confession.
Nakalagay rin sa notes ni Garcia na, Rizal writes
several letters to his friend Don Fernando
Benmantrill (a German) and to his family, with
his last declarations. He also writes to his future

testimony/eyewitness ni Vicente na binigyan ni
Rizal ng sulat yung sister niya or nagiwan siya ng
sulat rito. Which is that time rin na dumating
sila Vicente kaya nila nawitness.
Sister narcissa, bids good bye also pero di
lumapit sa kaniya.
♡︎At about midnight, he recites his confession
to Fr. Vilaclara. Rizal kneltdown. They all
kneltdown including Garcia in front of the altar
and Rizal read aloud the declaration which he
hadwritten and then sign it.
Dagdag pa niya sa NOTES niya:
As a confirmation that there is no doubt the
retraction of Rizal. Senor Pinana must look for
an issue of the daily El Liberal-I don’t remember
of what date, ---which published with pictures
and great details the execution of Rizal with the
title “La Vida Retrospectiva” (Retrospective
Life). In the section, “Rizal en Capilla” (Rizal in
Chapel), among other things, it say literally:
3. Lieutenant MARIANO MARTINEZ GALLEGOS,
on military duty at Fort Santiago, on December
29 and 30, 1896.
 In the NOTARIAL ACT signed by his former
Lieutenant of infantry in July 29, 1952, he
declared the following points:

siya sa chapel and sinabi niya na nawitness niya
lahat in 24 hours before kunin si rizal papuntang

gave of it."
Facts: 1.---Doctor Rizal wrote and signed a
document of retraction and profession of
Catholic faith, which officers Fresno and Moure
also signed as witnesses.

4. Reverend LUIS VIZA Y MARTI S.J, the priest
who brought to Rizal the statuette of the Sacred
Heart of Jesus which became a providential
instrument of God’s grace in the conversion of
Rizal.
In the NOTARIAL ACT signed by this
priest, he declared and testified to the following
details.
Dito sinabi lang niya na pagdating nila sa chapel,
binabasa kay Rizal yung death sentence and
after reading it Rizal called for the Fathers.
5. Don PACIANO RIZAL, brother of Dr. Jose Rizal,
and Dona TEODORA ALONSO Y QUINTOS,
mother of our National Hero.
Dito sinabing wala silang direct proof.
Pero meron ditong sulat na nagpadala ng sulat
si don paciano sa.

(Barcelona) --- na nagpublished ng three
editions of Rizal’s NOLI ME TANGERE, all of

6. A SISTER OF DR. JOSE RIZAL
  Dito nakalahad na hindi sure kung sino yung
kasama ni josephine bracken sa Chapel cell but
acccording to the previous slide which in
Captain Garcias testimony, it was Narcisa who
bids goodbye. But, Whoever accompanied
Josephine to Fort Santiago, certainly could have
learned of her brother’s conversation and
retraction.
And, as matter of fact, according to Don Felix
Murugarren, the Manila correspondent of the
Madrid paper, El Siglo Fuluro, it was a sister of
Dr. Jose Rizal who gave him the news about the
conversion and retraction of the glorious
convict. It was his same news he sent by cable
to Madrid that was published in El Siglo Furturo
soon after Rizal’s execution.
7. Mrs. Jose Rizal, nee, JOSEPHINE BRACKEN
TAUFER
Si Father g Spada, from Hongkong,
attented. Josephine Bracken in her last illness in
St. Francis Hospital since she had come to live
as the Italian Convert in Hongkong Shortly after
Rizal’s death.
Si Father Spada din yung nag bigay ng cathloic
burial ni josephin sa hongkong which is bago pa
man mawala si Josephin enalamam niya rito
yung conversion ni Rizal amd it is stated in the
form of affidavit.
8. His Excellency MANUEL LUENGO, CIVIL
GOVERNOR OF Manila at the time of Rizal’s
death.
. He asserts the fact that he saw Rizal in chapel.
He manifest his conviction that Rizal died as a
true Christian, although he does not give the
details of his visit to the convict not the grounds
of his conviction.
So based dun sa second testimong which is the
notes of Captain Garcia, isa yung Civil Governor
sa Bumisita kay rizal at that time and yun nga
siya si Manuel Luengo kaya nasabi niya raw
yung conviction ni Rizal.
9. Very Reverend Joaquin Vilallonga. S.J
A professor of the Ateneo de Manila at the
time of Rizal’s death. The venerable priest said:
“Jose Rizal retracted his affiliation with Masonry
and returned to embraced Catholicism a little
before his execution in the old Luneta on
December 30, 1986.
After rizal death, may mission sa india si Father
Vilallonga amd returned to Pholippines on June
14, 1949 and on his arrtival na nagtataka siya
kung bakit usap usapan parin yung rizal
conversion and kung bakit may mga tao paring
nagdodoubt dito kaya niya sinabi sa interview
released to the press on the occasion of the
eighty-eight anniversary of Rizal’s birthday,
June19, 1949. And yung patunay niya raw is
yung mga eyewitnesses na mga father like viza,
villaclara, father balaguer etc. Sinabi niya rin
dito sa interview yunv tungkol sa pagbisita ni
Father Viza kay Rizal dahil after "daw nun ay
pinuntahan siya nito(ni father viza) at kwenento
sa kaniga yung nangyari sa pagbisita kay Rizal
which is yun nga about statue and kung paano
yung pagdala ni father visa sa sacred statue
nagpaslight convince kay Rizal pero sinabi rin ni
Villango na ang pinakanagpaconvince talaga kay
rizal na magretract ay sa tulong ni Father
Balager and Villaclara.
Isa pa sa testimonh niya, he said naa after
magsign ni Rizal ng retraction, Father Balager
returned to Ateneo and ininform sila about the
said events. (Nasa ateneo si Father Vilallonga
kasi nga prpfessor siya dun nung time na yun
kaya niya siguro alam ang nagyari) which is
tugma rin sa kwento or testimony ni Father
Baleger sa una.
December 30, 1932
In addition sa testimony ni Vilallomga, sinabi
niya na nakausap niya si Josephine Braken sa
Hongkong, personally heard from her lips these
three decleration.
First, Dr. Rizal certainly died a Catholic, a fact
often repeated.
2. Before Rizal was lead to face the firing squad,
he married Josefina according to the rites of the
Catholic Church.
3. Dr. Rizal told his wife that he had confessed
and that he had Holy Communion.

He is a friend of Rizal, and he testify thst
without any trace of doubt, t RIZAL the Luna
brothers, and almost all those prisoners that
were imprison with him, at the time when Rizal

10. MR. MARIANO DE YCAZA, a student of the

CONCLUSION: ALL of this are just testimony,

yung sinabi niya sa letter: *pocture*

Evidently, the name of Father Sanchez is here

at times mistakenly placed for that Father Viza
or Father Vilaclara. And yung virgin kasi nasa
altar ng chapel that day kaya napagkamalan na
iyon yung sacred statue na ginaws ni rizal.

Father Sanchez, was specifically assigned to

convince Rizalto retract in exchange for his stay
in the Jesuit mission house and, much later, as
acondition prior to his marriage to Josephine
Bracken in a formal religiousceremony.Rizal,
however, chose to stay with his military guard.
