the workhouse who later married Mr Bumble. Old Sally was the nurse who
stole some gold jewellery from Oliver’s mother. Monks is the man who wanted
Fagin to make Oliver become a pickpocket.

Monks was paying Fagin to find Oliver. He was paying Fagin to teach Oliver
to become a thief. Monks had information and proof about Oliver’s mother, but
he threw this away. Monks has Oliver’s money. Monks wants Oliver to go to
prison. Monks wants to kill Oliver. Monks is Oliver’s brother.

Nancy tried to stop Fagin from beating Oliver. She contacted Rose and told
her about the plan that Monks had for Oliver. She gave Mr Brownlow a
description of Monks.

Fagin is not telling the whole truth. Nancy told Mr Brownlow about Monks but
she refused to betray Fagin and Sikes.

Explanation

Oliver is Monks’s younger half-brother. Monks’s father and mother separated
after he was born. Monks’s father met a young woman called Agnes and fell
in love with her. He died before they could get married. Monks’s mother
destroyed the new will so that Monks could have all his father’s money.

Crackit and Charley Bates were hiding from the police. Sikes was killed trying
to escape.
