IMMEDIATE PARENTAL INFORMATION THROUGH TEXT MESSAGE MINIMIZE THE

CUTTING CLASSES AMONG GRADE 6 BONIFACIO MALE PUPILS


for SY 2019-2020

CHAPTER I

Background of the Problem

Cutting class referred to not attending a required class in one's formal education
without a valid excuse/reason. Cutting of classes among Grade 6 Bonifacio male pupils of
Dona Concordia B. Jayme Central Elementary School is said to be rampant for this SY
2019-2020. Cutting of class becomes a gateway to more dark, serious problems. How?
Well, when a pupil manages to cut class, he /she will eventually have to find something to
do with his unauthorized free time. Since most of the youth nowadays have lost several
good values that act as a safeguard for several undesirable, immoral activities. Many
parents were blind and don’t have enough information regarding the behavior of their
children in school, they have full expectation that their children are in the school in the
whole day duration of classes.

Cutting classes obviously decreases the need opportunities for them to learn. All the
important lessons they need to learn in order to become academically competent. Instead
of learning, they are ruining their lives with vices. they are wasting the hard earned money
of their parents and teachers would have to experience unnecessary hassle because
teachers would be charged, or filed against them for failing to secure the safety of the
pupil.

This problem affects three people: The parent, student and teacher. The student-
-he/she learns different vices and thus ruins their lives with these vices. Also, the
opportunities that are presented to them for learning decreases, thus decreasing their
important educational experience. The parent -the hard earned money they allot for their
children's educations is deliberately wasted by the child. The teacher –if it is found out that
they lost a student during class hours, they will be reprimanded, or worse filed a case
against them.
Therefore cutting classes among these graduating pupils of Grade 6 Bonifacio male
pupils in Dona Concordia B. Jayme be addressed immediately inorder for them be
academically competent graduate of the school and prepared themselves for formal
Education on High School level.

Objectives of the Study

This study aims to:

1. Address or minimize the cutting classes of Grade 6 Bonifacio male pupils

2. Produce academically competent graduates of the school

3. Involvement of parents through immediate information via text message


regarding the attendance of their children in school especially in the afternoon
classes

4. Saved pupils from gambling, computer games addiction and other vices

Significance of the Study

This study is indeed very useful to pupils, teachers and parents. Pupils will be
saved from vices and computer addiction games. Parents will be oriented to give more
time to monitor their children in school, teachers will be guided on some motivating factors
that would invite better attention for those pupils who were involve in cutting classes
activity. Therefore concluded that teacher cannot only solve this problem parental
involvement and intervention can contribute to address cutting classes.

CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Cutting class will turn a person’s future into darkness. Be sad in the future? Or study
hard? Several factors of Grade 6 Bonifacio male pupils cut classes due to the following
reasons to wit; a. Influence by classmates or peers to play games in computer shop like
dota,zuma,etc. b.Addiction to basketball game even under the heat of the sun some boys
were noticed at the barangay hall basketball court, c. Poverty- there were those who will
not attend classes in the afternoon for they don’t have “baon’’ to eat their rice is enough for
breakfast, d. Child Labor – there are those accompanying their parents to the ricefield
(mangag ag), coconut plantation (mangupras), and some will sell fruits and vegetables to
help their parents sustaining their basic needs.

Cutting class creates an undesirable habit and mindset. This mindset is the mindset
of being lazy. When you cut, you also create this habit of walking away from something
you do not find desirable, even if this activity/thing you are walking away from is important
and necessary.
Also, the money that our parents work very hard for to send us to a good school in
order to attain a good education is all put to waste. Your parents spend so much money for
you to just slack off. And finally, when one cuts class, he or she tends to engage in
undesirable activities such as drinking, smoking drugs etc. Because usually, the peers that
invite you to cut are bad influences

Everytime pupils will plan to cut their class, they must immediately do the STOP,
LOOK AND LISTEN. STOP thinking that kind of thought, stop thinking all the possible
reasons why they will not attend their class. LOOK beyond the future, students must
imagine that they might not finish their studies because of doing that. And most
importantly LISTEN to the guardian angel that’s says: “BREAK THAT BAD HABIT!” Why
not study hard for you to make your dreams come true?

CHAPTER III
Methodology

Locale

This study identifies ways and strategies if not eradicate at least minimize the
cutting classes of Grade 6 Bonifacio male pupils. Having found the there were three
persons affected in the problem the pupil, teacher and parents different
solutions/strategies came up. This has been conducted before the Semestral Break
started.

Respondents
The study includes all male pupils of Grade 6 Bonifacio class for School
Year 2015-2016 comprising seventeen (17) male enrollees.

Administration of instrument
The following actions were undertaken by the proponent upon gathering data
inline with the solution of cutting classes of these identified seventeen male pupils.

1. Oral Warning and Interview


Informing pupil that he cannot enter the class the following day without
written explanation indicating the reasons why he was not able to attend classes
in the afternoon. Asking questions where they have been those days that they
cut classes.

2. Letter Sent to Parents


Information to parents through sending letters to them informing that his son
cut classes. Considering that parents are also busy some failed to respond
the letter.

3. Sending text message to parents


Immediate text message or call to parents informing them that their son is not
in school on that particular day. This action so far alarmed the pupil for their
parents will reprimand them when they went home. Obviously pupils are afraid
when reprimanded by parents for they could not have allowance as a
consequence of cutting their classes.

4. Motivating factor activity given by the teacher


The use of latest technology like youtube projects and arts from youtube
presented to the pupils as their activity in the afternoon invite better attention
among male pupils to attend class in the for they have new arts and projects
to be accomplished. Projects should be new to them to invite their interest.

Discussion of Result

It has been observed that Oral Warning were just an ordinary words for those
identified pupils who cut classes. Everything just fallen on a deaf ear. They would just nad
and give promises never to do it again. But sad to say promises are indeed said to be
broken because those pupils repeatedly cut classes. They would just listen all the
warnings and advices given to them but in return no response of action from them.

Sending letters to parents is another action taken to address the cutting classes of
Grade 6 pupils. Considering that parents are also busy sometimes they went home late
and tired they could not even read those letters send to them by the adviser. As a result
only few responded and went to school to follow up and respond the problem inline with
their children’s’ attendance in the whole day class.

Sending text message to the parents is a good way to invite parents/guardians’


attention. Wherever we go now adays the fastest way to reach out information to people is
through the use of cellular phones. Parents are indeed thankful and surprise when the
teacher will inform them right away that their children are not in teachers’ costudy that
particular time of the day because their children where influence by peers going to
computer shop and basketball court others are doing gambling like taksi and some goes to
Binay River just to make some fun in swimming during class time specifically in the
afternoon class 1:00PM to 4:30PM.

Teacher has the holding power to check/hold the attendance of the pupils. When
pupils were given activities in the afternoon that are new to them like; mosaic, scrap book,
paper puppet, lanterns out of used catalogues, colorful opt art and doodling, the pupils will
prioritize attending class rather than cut classes. However, not at all times teacher can
hold other peers that would influence the Grade 6 male pupils because some of them were
high school students that will strongly influence them to join their group going somewhere
and yet these Grade 6 male pupils right away tempted, that is why parents and teachers
should go hand in hand solving this problem.

CONCLUSION

Every goal of a school is to create a globally and academically competent learners.


How can we do so if there were pupils who cut classes. That is why this study has been
conducted in order to solve or minimize the problem towards cutting classes. There were
four actions taken and the last two actions namely;sending text message to the parents
and giving exciting projects/activities to the pupils in the afternoon were proven to effective.

The proponent found out that parents are indeed supportive to their children
however they are just busy working in the farm to sustain they daily needs in other words
they just don’t have time to visit the school and approach the teacher. But through the use
of high technology like cellphones every now and then they were informed regarding the
behavior of their children, thus reprimand and counsel their children at home. Parents
and guardians are indeed the indispensable partner of teacher in minimizing the cutting
classes of Grade 6 Bonifacio pupils.

Moreover, giving of exciting/meaning activities really invite better attention of the


pupils. Afternoon classes are said to be boring because it has been said that these are
holy hours or sleepy time especially considering that our weather is indeed very hot they
are uneasy and sleepy however is fun and enjoyable activities be given to them , pupils will
find hard to went home even its already 5pm because they enjoy doing their
projects/activity of the lesson.

PROPOSAL/RECOMMENDATION

Parents are indeed the indispensable partners of teachers in attaining quality


education. Cutting classes obviously decrease the pupils’ opportunities for them to learn,
the important lessons they need to learn in order to become academically competent, the
proponent strongly recommend to involve parental information regarding the attendance of
their children in school. There are so many ways to inform the parents it can be through
oral and written (letter) but the fastest way to inform them is through text message.

Most of us have cellular phones ,we bring cell phones wherever we go so if


information given to parents via cellular phone through sending text message they can
receive the information right away thus do their part by counseling their children at home.
